I have to admit I was surprised at how vehemently some of my first readers disliked John here.
Vehemently disliked? Color me confused. OK, making up one's mind to work through as many bodies as possible is far from the epitome of admirable, but under the circumstances? Far from the nadir of likability, too.
Had John represented this to Rodney as anything other than helping each other not die unlaid, I'd understand vehement dislike. I'm not seeing how he could have been clearer to Rodney that this was the one last fuck before death. Given the hint that John had been living like a monk up to this point so as not to endanger team dynamics, Rodney would have to have been dim or unrealistically sheltered to show up at John's quarters with stars in his eyes.
Or is there some other reason than some sort of leading on of the naive that has other women all torqued up about this?
