you totally had me from here: If John was going down with the ship, he did not intend to spend the next couple weeks living like a monk.

i was surprised by the comments that this john isn't very well-liked - the first thing that struck me about this story was how realistic all of their dialogue, and the way the story went, felt. it all seemed very in-character to me, with maybe a slightly darker john than usual, but i bought it because of the imminent death scenario... i really liked this story. i really, really hope there's more.
