Wow. I hadn't considered this, but I think you're right.
John has that kind of altruistic arrogance where he thinks he knows the best course of action and that people should follow his lead. He doesn't see that his way isn't always the best way, or even if its best for him, that it isn't necessarily a only-size-fits-all solution.
The only time I can think of Rodney pushing back, I mean really insisting on his own course of action, was in Trinity (which hasn't happened yet in this storyline).
