No, I got that. Really. :) But ambivilance still means that he hasn't made a decision either way. And to me, just showing up doesn't mean that he's all set to embark on his new sexual orientation. Which is what John assumes. And that's a fairly valid assumption. I'm just saying that on account of the pov and the choice to keep a good portion of his bluster in his own head, it gives the whole thing a different feel than if Rodney were to be a bit more bitchy ala something like Inferno or Aurora.
