However, John *does* differentiate between his mission mindset and his normal setting. I think this might be part of the dissonance people are experiencing, irrespective (is that a word?) of their personal experiences. In The Storm, John shoots Kolya -- and immediately goes !! crap, are you okay? to Elizabeth. It's not so much about her ordeal but that he just shot a man next to her. Just a masterful character shift from JF.
The question is, how come Elizabeth gets that shift automatically and Rodney doesn't? He can read -both- of them equally well. Can't he? He's resentful and snippy about Elizabeth's rejection but he respects it. It's like a progression from Hot Zone except on a personal level. Yet ironically he doesn't shift out of his 'professional' mode with Rodney -- can he not read Rodney as well? Can he not read himself as well? Is their personal relationship, at that point, identical to their professional relationship? After all, they did bond over what's ostensibly part of their job -- turning on Ancient devices.
Or is it just John = jerk to Rodney??? Like the Tootsie Pop, the world may never know.
