I agree that you got the dynamic right, but the truth is, when one partner wants something the other isn't too sure about, A is asking B for a favor. As the supplying party, Rodney had the right to demand a little consideration.

John's refusal to see it that way, and Rodney's disinclination to demand any "nice" in return, doesn't mitigate my irritation with John. :)
