One thing I read somewhere that I found amusing. Supposedly HP Lovecraft was friends with Robert Bloch (the author of "Psycho"). During their correspondence with eachother and their own writings... they both killed representations of eachother in their stories as some sort of running joke. :)

BWAH! Now I have an idea about that . . . . The Elder Gods let loose in an elementary school. The bookish child tames some fell beast.

Hehehe! Reminds me of a deleted scene from a british comedy called Black Books. Bit of a pisstake on Harry Potter. Can't remember exactly what was said, but after her mother purchased her a book, a schoolgirl muttered something about upholding the sacred rites and ensorcelled Manny & Bernard (the shopkeepers) into bringing her the candy tray they had on the desk before she left the store.

The ironic thing with Lovecraft stories... the people who read or discover too much about the Elder Gods tend to lose their sanity or go mad for a little while. *snerk*

There was a joke in one of the gamer comics (Knights of the Dinner Table, I think) where two of the characters sat at the back of the party and burned all the mystic books they encountered. Generally reading one of those books caused you to lose part of your sanity... and it's generally not a good idea for the mentally unhinged to be in possesion of magical powers (or a loaded weapon either for that matter).

Speaking of schoolchildren with books of evil. When I was in grade six, I was awarded a book called "The Chamber of Horrors" as a citizenship award. I think I was twelve years old then. Heh. It had short stories by Stephen King, Lovecraft, Bram Stoker... all sorts of cheery tales. :)
