Lovecraft's bigotry was so rampant I almost missed it. I thought he was talking about one of his monsters, and he actually meant the black people in Louisiana. When I realised that's what he was talking about my jaw dropped.

But yes, it's worth a read as long as you're prepared to face that, if anything as an academic exercise.
