Oh man, I just realized that the history of the Stargate setting means that The Traveler was on Earth millions of years ago... what if that Antarctic defensive base it left behind isn't just what it seems, but a seed or bud that will someday grow into another Traveler now that people are inside it again?

Ooooh, is that a creepy idea.

I actually thought of turning something from this into an original piece, maybe for this year's NaNo novel . . . that gives me another interesting idea to pursue.

Thanks for the book rec also--he gets good reviews on Amazon but what a lurid cover (http://www.amazon.com/Bloodstone-Karl-Edward-Wagner/dp/0446306290/sr=8-8/qid=1159709854/ref=pd_bbs_8/002-0223712-3364020?ie=UTF8&s=books). I will still check it out. Some of the best books I've ever read have had even worse covers.

I kind of imagined the Ascended Ancients having bought into the idea so much that they felt like they had to perpetuate it to make their own sacrifice worthwhile, hence the punishment of Chaya. As for the Ori, now I wish I was following SG-1 more--that would make an interesting companion piece, would make Atlantis a tiny part of a much larger and more horrifying story, based on what I already know of the Ori.
