Did you happen to mean "Lucifer's Hammer"? If so, it's in my pile of "should re-read." I wasn't that fond of it when I first read it, but I like *most* of the other stuff Niven & Pournelle have done (I wasn't fond of Footfall either) so I feel I should give it another shot.

Many people compare "The Stand" to Herbert's "The White Plague" but Herbert makes me snore... what can I say?
