Dangling Challenge: THE MEASURE OF A MAN by Teand

Challenge: Dangling
Title: THE MEASURE OF A MAN
Rating: Adult (ish)
Author: Teand
Summary: you can tell a lot about a man just by looking at what he's wearing
Pairing:McKay/Sheppard (implied)

THE MEASURE OF A MAN

"It's a ridiculous outfit."

"It's ceremonial garb, Dr. Mckay." Ford smoothed the brightly patterned sarong over his thighs and grinned. "We're all wearing the same thing."

"Yeah." Rodney folded his arms over the pale blue vest. "I know. And it's insulting that a scientist of my stature and my ability and my intelligence should be forced into such a ridiculous outfit."

"It's a sarong, Doc."

"It's a skirt!"

John caught the lieutenant's eye and shook his head. It wasn't helping Rodney's mood that Ford looked terrific. He didn't look bad himself – if a bit hairier than the natives – but Rodney, well, it wasn't the best look for him and if something definitive wasn't done soon, he'd be complaining about it all night. And Dr. Rodney Mckay in a full out snit could put a damper on any party. "Lieutenant, why don't you go out and join Teyla at the fires. We'll be right behind you."

"Yes, sir."

After making a minor adjustment to his own outfit, he moved over behind Rodney and slid his hand over the silk covered curve of his ass. "I like the way you look."

"Oh really?" The tone could have flayed enamel off steel. "I'm naked under here!"

"I know."

"I'm dangling!"

Leaning forward, John set his lips just at the edge of Rodney's ear and breathed, "Then it's a good thing you got the longest sarong." With one final caress, he headed out of the tent.

Later, when Ford asked him how he'd managed to put Dr. Mckay into such a good mood, John just lifted his cup of fermented huuran juice and grinned, one hand resting on the extra two inches of fabric folded under at the waist of his sarong.

Now I'm going to be picturing them in sarongs for the rest of the day. *g*

That was cute, thanks!

Sarongs! What a lovely look for them all. I think they really need to go to this planet.*g*

And John knows just how to handle Rodney, doesn't he?

mmmm... sarongs. I was born in Indonesia, and my Dad adopted it in place of dressing gown / boxers as stumbling out of bed to answer door gear, so my normal response to bloke wearing sarong is 'oh, right, didn't feel like trousers today then'. But on the right sort of bod, verrry nice. Does wonders for the bum.

Funny... but you do know of course that men's sarongs are folded back up between the legs and tied off at the waist if you see what I mean -probably because of just the reason you mention- so that they are actually closer to comfortable shorts than to skirts, which the women's sarongs are pretty close to indeed, since most of those are not folded back.

Or are we thinking of different types of sarongs? Possibly the way it's worn varies depending on which country we are thinking about? The above applies to most countries of South-East Asia, I am not familiar with any other type of sarong.

Or possibly the garment in question was closer to a kilt? :D

*I know, I know, nit-picking on details... can't help myself! At least I do not know anything about kilts, so it could be worse!*

Try this...

With the descriptions she gave it immediately brought to mind THIS (http://www.expat.or.id/info/howtowearasarong.html) style of sarong.

Which most certainly is a skirt. *g* You know, the way a kilt is... :snort:

Er. I never really thought much about it apart from the fact that as a child, this between the legs solution was a lot more secure and thus more comfortable to go run around in and it looked as if that's how it was mostly worn by men (and women in circumstances where they would wear trousers in westernized areas). Oh and I am not familiar with how it's worn in Indonesia but mostly with Cambodia, Laos and Thailand.

And as far as I know, people always wear undergarments underneath.
:)

Inetresting discussion: I had not thought/talked about this type of thing for a very long time...
