The words stuck in his throat every time he tried to say them. He could express his feelings with his body, show his lover how much he meant, how much he was loved, but he could never quite get the words to come out.
The words were still stuck in his throat, blocking any other speech he attempted. It frustrated those around him, that he no longer spoke. They thought it was some petty, childish mood of his.
It wasn't. But until John could say "I love you," to Carson Beckett, alive, dead, or Ascended, no other words would come.
