ADMIN: Ways To Die Challenge
I'm stealing the title from
crysothemis's Ways To Die in the Pegasus Galaxy but the challenge prompt really comes from
seperis, who said:
Let me say again: THERE MIGHT BE DEATH STORIES IN THIS CHALLENGE. IT'S A "WAYS TO DIE" CHALLENGE, and while you are welcome to post a death-warning, or welcome to certify your story 100% death free, or welcome to state it's not major character death or whatever else you'd like, we don't require you to warn.
Let me say that again: WE DON'T REQUIRE YOU TO WARN.
So caveat lector; if you're worried, don't click on a story that doesn't have a death warning, because of how this is a "WAYS TO DIE" challenge.
It's November 9th by my watch; this challenge will be open until November 23 at midnight eastern.
Edited to change my userpic, because if I don't use my Death icon here, where would I...?"

...so it's probably either wrong or in bad taste to have a creativity in death SGA challenge, isn't it?It's a mood all right, and I dig it; (it's my gothy, Smiths and Cure-centric adolescence talking.) Anyway, you aren't limited to the Pegasus galaxy (earth stories welcome!) and nobody has to die--we're happy with near-deaths and almost-deaths, because close totally counts in horseshoes and handgrenades. It can be other people's deaths, long-ago deaths, spiritual deaths, metaphorical deaths, heat death, or hey, for you wags out there--dice games. THAT BEING SAID, there might be DEATH STORIES IN THIS CHALLENGE.
I don't know. I was thinking of finding the top ten most obscure ways to die and challenge on it. Say, death by sea urchin. Attacked by a polar bear. Shoelaces. Death by chocolate.
It's totally a mood.

Sheesh. Think of the risk taking for some people, reading a story and not knowing EXACTLY what's going to happen.
*teasing*
Good for you on the no warnings on this one.

Also, new challenge suggestion: How about a biggest mistake challenge?
This could be about a mistake still in the making. It could be the team, swapping stories. Or it could be something from the past coming back to haunt one (or all) of them - maybe John's hair transplant surgeon is transferred to Atlantis, or Rodney's totally flawed first article turns up on the intranet, or maybe even something actually serious happens. There are a lot of possibilities.

I am, first and foremost, a writer of original stories and I'm sure a lot of other people in fandom can agree with that at least. What I love most about writing is creating characters. Fun, realistic characters who take on a life of their own. While I adore fanfic in all forms and shapes, it takes away a little of that joy since I'm working with characters someone else created.
So I'm thinking, what about the people in the Pegasus Galaxy who doesn't spend their days savind the world and having wacky adventures? What about the cook who has to keep them all fed? What about the nurse in the infirmary who has to keep Ronon in bed when he's injured and goes crazy with cabin fever? What about Rodney's lab assistants? What about the marines? What about Chuck the gate technician? Does Atlantis have a janitor?
What I propose is a Common People Challenge (idea originally borrowed from here (http://www.subreality.com/tcp.htm)). Random glimpses into the everyday life of the expedition members who aren't high and mighty heroes.
Is it a very bad idea?
