I’m Not Dead

Rodney inhaled the fumes that came from the incense burner and listened to his copy of Pink’s new CD. A warm haze cocooned him and he floated there. He didn’t know what was in the incense all he knew was that it took him away from the pain. He needed that. It was the only thing keeping him going on now, ever since . . .

Rodney closed his eyes, a tear slipped down his cheek. It still hurt, even with the drugs. They were gone. They had left him behind and he was alone now. The door slid open silently and Radek stepped in. “Rodney,” he whispered.

“Yes, Radek.”

“Colonel Cadwell and Major Lorne want to talk to you.”

“Alright.” Rodney whispered, nodding his head.

Radek smiled, what Cadwell and Lorne had to say to Rodney would make his day. He glanced over to a pile of papers that were the plans Rodney had made to use against the Orontoros. The plans, Elizabeth had said were unacceptable and wrong. Radek smiled nastily, Rodney lived by the motto that revenge is a dish best served with a side of obsession and a nice tall glass of spite. A look of sorrow flickered for a moment in his eyes. Rodney’s obsession with vengeance on the Ontororos and the drug that Major Lorne and his team discovered on PX9-M32 were the only things keeping Rodney here. He hoped that once Rodney had his revenge he wouldn’t decide to follow Ronon, Teyla, and John.

He walked to the door and opened it. He looked out at Colonel Cadwell and Major Lorne who were waiting in the hall. He smiled sadly and gestured for them to come in. They stepped in and the door slid shut behind them. They looked at Radek, a question in their eyes as they smelled the incense.

“Don’t worry. It’s basically an anti-depressant that makes you feel really good. Carson and Kate prescribed it for him,” Radek whispered. “It doesn’t impair his intellect at all.”

“Don’t talk like I’m not in the room.” Rodney grumbled, “Now what do you two want?”

“We would like to talk about vengeance.” Colonel Cadwell murmured.

Rodney rolled over and looked at them. “Vengeance?” he whispered, hope shining in his eyes.

“Vengeance.” Lorne replied firmly.

“Dr. Weir is wrong about leaving the Orontoros unpunished. If we don’t do something, other cultures will think that we’re weak and that they can murder our people without repercussions.” Cadwell replied grimly, Lorne nodding in agreement.

Rodney languidly got out of bed, moved to the sheaf of papers that Radek had been looking at earlier and picked them up. He returned to the bed and sat down. “Alright, here are a few of the plans I’ve come up with so far.”

He then began to explain them in great detail, his voice filled with excitement and using his hands to highlight key points. The incense actually making him even more verbose then than he usually was. Cadwell and Lorne listened intently, nodding from time to time in approval. Radek, every now and then, would make a comment on the feasibility of a particular plan. After Rodney was finished explaining all his myriad plans the four of them discussed which would be the best to use and how to sneak it by Elizabeth. After two hours they had all the details ironed out and all they had to do was implement their plans. Cadwell, Lorne, and Radek left Rodney’s quarters and he got up and put on some more incense. He pressed play on his CD player and lay back down.

Soon he was floating once again in a warm haze. He’d have his revenge soon. It wouldn’t fill in the cracks; nothing would now that John was gone. He smiled sadly, he wasn’t dead yet, he was just floating. One day he’d meet John again. He would, but not now, not for a long time. After all, he had promised John that he would continue on hadn’t he. He knew that Radek was afraid that he’d follow the rest of him team but Radek didn’t have anything to fear. He wasn’t dead yet.
