The first paragraph seems perfectly fine until it reaches the last two perks and it is suddenly *very* obvious that something big is going on! I love the shock value that made me re-read the bit about Rodney just to check I'd read it right!

The swing between cold calculation with extra cold-blooded killing to maniacal glee (frankly nearly complete with unhinged giggling) that make it all the more horrible. The planning and the manipulation, playing the long game and carefully biding his time, crafting his persona have all the hallmarks of true evil genius. They also make this fit canon and Ba'al's character perfectly.

The almost cheerful indecision over what to do to Rodney, the ironic torture he has planned for tthese people who care for him and who he is supposed to care for made my skin crawl.

As did:

"He bets himself that he can make Rodney like it, though."

"working with Rodney. Working against Rodney. He can’t decide which one he wants it to be.
He gets to find out, though."

So in this AU Atlantis is going to be at the mercy of a twisted John Sheppard. The way fighting the Wraith is added as an after-thought after defeating/killing the senior staff and that "he might have to kill all the Marines" is extra nasty!

Did you come back to play with this again? I hope you did, I'm off to look!
