SUMMARY: "From the amount of yelling and screaming taking place, John was expecting at least another killer virus on the loose in Atlantis."
WORDS: 650-ish
NOTES: Just in! YAY!

Three Little Words

The personnel of the Daedelus had very kindly brought along the most recent DVDs and TV shows available - some enterprising soul had managed to bring along almost every game in the last seasons of the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB - as well as an assortment of books. John would never say it, but he was more than a little happy that 'War and Peace' wasn't going to be his reading material for the rest of his life.

Then again, maybe it wasn't such a good thing. The geeks and sci-fi junkies promptly commandeered the rec room for a viewing marathon, and were presently watching some sci-fi show that was apparently about toasters. John didn't get it, and made the mistake of saying as much. He was promptly expelled from the room and told to come back when they got to Dr. Who, or when he'd gained a little more taste and discrimination.

That really hurt.

Elizabeth seemed to think it was rather funny - both the passion of the geeks and his expulsion. Teyla got an explanation from McKay regarding the show, sat in on several of the episodes, but came out just as confused in spite of explanations from various geeks.

She was back in the gym sparring against John by midafternoon.

It was nearly midnight when he and Teyla returned from an inspection of one of the outlying wings of the city. The damage from the Wraith attack was being fixed - but it would take time. And now that they had the ZPM, they had the leeway they needed to get the city back into shape.

As they reached the diverging corridors towards living quarters and recreational section, John headed for the rec room. They should be finished pretty soon - they'd been at it all day - and Elizabeth had asked him to make sure that the necessary personnel (by which he interpreted 'McKay') got at least a few hours sleep before they all went back to work.

"You believe they will still be watching?"

He glanced at Teyla, tolerant of her innocence regarding geeks and their core nature. "No," he told her. "I know they'll still be watching."

Then the screaming and wailing started. They glanced at each other in sudden surprise and fear and began to run.

From the amount of yelling and screaming taking place in the 'rec room', John was expecting at least another killer virus on the loose in Atlantis.

He caught the edge of the doorjamb to change his momentum and swing himself into the room. And stopped. Teyla caught his shoulder, using his weight to brace herself as she came around the corner and beheld the sight before them.

Some fifteen to twenty Atlantis personnel were half-up, out of their seats, yelling, shouting, shrieking at the screen where the credits were scrolling by.

"They can't do that!"

"They just did!"

"I can't believe they left it there!"

"And we'll never know what happened next!"

"Is there any way we could get them to send the next season?"

"How?"

"McKay's algorithm got how much data into three seconds?"

"Point."

"They'd never authorise it."

"Maybe we could get someone in the SGC to piggyback it..."

"MCKAY!" John bellowed over the cacophony. Beside him, Teyla winced.

The noises died down. "Uh, Sheppard." McKay ran a hand through his hair, messing it up even further. "Sorry to have woken you. And Teyla. We just...uh...had a slight problem."

John's eyed narrowed, "Exactly what kind of a slight problem?"

McKay nodded at the young woman who had the remote control, and she hit a button on it. The disc began skipping backwards until it reached a black screen filled with three words in blocky white: TO BE CONTINUED.

"They left us dangling!" McKay intoned, mournfully.

John looked to Teyla, who was unsuccessfully hiding a smile.

He sighed. Geeks. Ouy.

NOTES: I haven't actually seen the final ep of BSG as yet. But there was sure a lot of screaming about it in chat the night it aired in the US! This story has not been betad on account of me dashing it off in the last 30 mins. If you want to point any contextual mistakes out (gently, of course) I'd much appreciate it!

FEEDBACK: Would love it!

*G* Our geeks needed to blow off some steam anyway. Nice to see a good-hearted "picking up the pieces" fic -- that seems hard to pull off.

Hee! Of course someone would send BSG. And, yeah, there are multiple cliffhangers from hell in the last ep. Poor geeks!

Funny: it is always intresting to see the cultural differences between the scientists and the military contingent...

But which toaster? Not 'Red Dwarf'? *totally at sea... * :)

First of all, loved this ficlet!

He was promptly expelled from the room and told to come back when they got to Dr. Who, or when he'd gained a little more taste and discrimination.

We're a snotty bunch of elitists, aren't we? XD

Second, a bit of constructive criticism: there was no NHL this season because of the players' strike/lockout/insanity. McKay may or may not care, depending on how Canadian you want to write him. (There was a funny story months back formatted as emails if I remember correctly, where McKay kept demanding the hockey season and wouldn't believe that there wasn't one.)

Where is that story????? (It's not just Canadians who were devastated by the NHL lockout, y'know. No BRUINS! *wails*)

I also loved this ficlet. (Although I have trouble believing that a guy who quotes all the science fiction movies Shep does wouldn't get Battlestar Galactica.)
