The 2007 Amnesty Challenge is officially CLOSED. You guys really outdid yourselves; you can read the hundred and eleven challenge responses here, or using the 2007 Amnesty Challenge tag.

This would probably also be a good time to remind you to thank the archive elves for this community: [livejournal.com profile] cathexys and [livejournal.com profile] renenet, who memory and tag and otherwise help keep things rolling around here. And thank all of you for another great year.

New! Challenge! Coming! Right! Up!

[livejournal.com profile] korilian, on behalf of our pals at [livejournal.com profile] sgagenrefinders, requested a "Not Human" challenge because they had such a great time brainstorming stories where characters are either born not human or are transformed into something not quite human. This gets you not just your elf, fairy, wingfic, superhero, robot, mermaid, vampire, etc type categories, but also your mutations, evolutions, iratus bug bites, etc. The genrefinders people would prefer stories that would help them get their 'Sorry, I was really an alien all along' cravings out of the way, but we here at flashfic will accept anything that can be plausibly framed as fitting a "Not Human" challenge prompt, because there's nothing to start a year off right like some good old serious crack.

Today's January 2, 2008; this challenge will end on January 16, 2008 at midnight eastern.

.title: With Feathers (~1,600 words)
.by: [livejournal.com profile] aesc
.pairing: McKay/Sheppard
.rating/warnings: PG, absolute crack
.excerpt: Every winter it’s the same story: John tries to lead them across the field, over the river, and up the hill through the forest, but the snow blankets every convenient landmark, piling in drifts over the stone walls and bushes and even the long flat path the humans have made.

.notes: I should probably say that [livejournal.com profile] dogeared and I have talked about this for quite a bit in various forms, and the "Not Human" challenge coming up when it did is... eerily appropriate. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon for indulging my "I am too lazy to go to the computer with Photoshop" self.

Also, when I say "crack," I do mean it.

So, inevitably, John gets lost. )

.eta: Now with sequel, in which we learn of Rodney's almost-fatal attraction to safety orange hunting jackets.
