The Care and Feeding of Geeks by Nemesis
Jan. 21st, 2006 06:58 pmTitle: The Care and Feeding of Geeks by J. O'Neill (Documents Challenge)
Summary: A pictorial look at the pamphlets General O'Neill gave John before he left for Atlantis
Set sometime during Season One, McShep
“One more thing, Major.” General O’Neill shoved a small crate into John’s hands. “This box contains important documents that should be distributed to ‘Gate team leaders about six weeks into their tour.”
John looked inside the box. There were a few pamphlets in it, and nothing else. “Sir?”
“So it’s not War and Peace, but trust me, you’ll appreciate it later.” O’Neill was smiling and John couldn’t help but worry a little. Why six weeks in?
“Look, the scientist are building secret compartments into crates and using coffee pods instead of packing peanuts. The guys in charge of supply are taking bribes. No one else is only really bringing one item.”
“You want me to fill the crate, Sir?”
“Bring a book, Major. Something long. Daniel went a little stir crazy that year on Abydos with nothing to read.”
John peered into the mostly empty crate. Something long… Actually, bringing War and Peace wasn’t a bad idea.

This rings so true to SG fanfiction where everyone has to be more than they ever expected to be, and the change in ways you sometimes wished they didn't have to.

Date: 2006-01-22 02:11 am (UTC)Each one of these deserves a fic unto itself. I just see John's face while he's making the notations...*smashes plot bunnies*
Love it.
