Summary: Post-"Epiphany", John needs to reconnect to his life on Atlantis
You've only been gone a couple of hours ~*~ You're in a time dilation field ~*~ It's only been a couple of hours for us
John sighed as he made his way back to his quarters after he was finally released from the infirmary. Beckett had poked and prodded and taken skin samples from his hands and other places to ensure that there was no lingering damage from his initial passage through the portal. He nodded at the people who passed him, enduring the surprised double takes he received for his clothing and the beard. Most likely the beard. After all, to them, he'd left Atlantis that morning, clean shaven and in uniform. Now he was in native garb and sporting a full beard. Jarring for them, but for him, the shock was knowing that while he spent six months in exile, thinking Atlantis had left him behind, he'd only been gone a few hours. He got a few knowing looks as well, and given the speed at which gossip traveled in Atlantis, he knew that the entire city had heard that he hadn't been alone in the sanctuary and was speculating on how he'd passed his time.
Finally reaching his quarters, John ran his hand over the door controls and stepped inside, letting the doors shut out the rest of Atlantis. He gave a brief thought to not leaving his rooms for a few days, letting himself adjust to the turning back of the clock, so to speak. He had six months of memories and emotions to process before he could begin to feel normal, and no one seemed to take that into account. Rodney had been more interested in explaining the time dilation field, and Ronon hadn't seemed impressed by John being missing for a few hours. Teyla and Elizabeth had been sympathetic, but even then, Elizabeth's first words still cut through him, as if a few hours should have meant nothing to him.
They were half a year to him.
John started toward the bathroom, determined to shower and shave and start to reclaim his life - his Atlantean life, not the life he'd reluctantly participated in while in the sanctuary, waiting for the others to ascend and leave him there alone. A flash of white caught his eyes, and he looked over. Propped against his pillow was a note, and he recognized Radek's handwriting. He closed his eyes briefly, thinking of Teer and that one night, when she'd been so forward and he'd just been so damn lonely that he'd reached for what little comfort there was to find with her. Opening his eyes, he picked up the note.

John swallowed against the lump in his throat. Whatever you had to do to survive, miláčku, it is forgiven. Just like that, Radek forgave him.
Radek understood.
Carefully folding the note in half, and half again, John tucked it into one of the small pockets inside his shirt and went in search of Radek. He found him in his quarters, working on something on his laptop. He looked up at John, and the look on his face eased an ache inside John that he hadn't realized was there. He'd been missed, and how sad was it that one expression on his lover's face could break him in a way that a thousand sessions with Heighmeyer would never be able to?
But God, the emotion was what he needed, not Elizabeth's attempts to make it all seem normal, or Rodney's cold scientific explanations. He'd missed them, but they hadn't missed him. Radek had, and holding onto Radek he could feel how much Radek had missed him, how much Radek hurt to know John had been stuck in that place.
"I'm sorry," John finally whispered. "I'm so, so sorry."
"Shh, miláčku," Radek whispered back. "It is forgiven. You are home, and that is all that matters."
"Six months, Radek," John muttered. "Six months."
"Too long," Radek agreed. "For both of us." He drew back and traced a finger down John's jaw, the callouses on his fingers catching on the hairs of John's beard. "One eternity measured in hours and months." Radek tugged John over to the bed and pulled him down onto it, wrapped his arms around John's shoulders so John's head was tucked under Radek's chin, resting on his chest. "God, but I missed you, John," Radek murmured.
John sighed against the familiar heartbeat and let himself fall asleep, finally believing he was home.

and the knowledge that Radek understands and missed him
He'd been missed, and how sad was it that one expression on his lover's face could break him in a way that a thousand sessions with Heighmeyer would never be able to?
Just lovely, thanks for sharing.
