Warnings: Anything in season one and two was fair game in this.
Summary: For the flashfic Dark side challenge. In a certain light, we all have flaws, it’s only at what cost do we let them show?
AN: Big thanks to my two betas Linzi and Tazmy!

Flawed

In the matter of the International Oversight Advisory (IOA) and Judge Advocate General (JAG) vs. Atlantis Expedition Members, named therein, charges are as follows:

Elizabeth Weir: Sanctioned torture of both friendly and hostile forces; conducted herself unlawfully by colluding with a terrorist against an allied people, planned espionage against said terrorist, thereby allowing expedition members to be taken prisoner and held for the purposes of extortion; sanctioned genetic experiments on both friendly and hostile forces; agreed to trade in weapons and explosives with a less advanced society, thereby allowing their development of nuclear capabilities and placing other worlds at risk; conspired with expedition members to deploy a biological weapon of mass destruction against the articles of war.

Doctor Carson Beckett: Administered untested genetic therapy; colluded in the creation of a virus that cost a half of a world’s population; created a retrovirus that almost cost the life of a key expedition member, later using it against a hostile in direct violation of the code of conduct in the expedition guidelines; conspired with expedition members to deploy a biological weapon of mass destruction against the articles of war.

Doctor Rodney McKay: Apprehended technology unlawfully from a world of children, almost costing their lives and those of the four man team under the command of Lieutenant Colonel John Sheppard (formerly Major); openly betrayed critical military information to hostiles; in pursuit of technology, placed the lives of expedition members in direct peril, costing the life of a scientist under his command, and destroyed 5/6ths of a solar system, despite the warnings and opinions of fellow scientists; failed to detect dangerous viral code that almost led to the destruction of Earth at the hands of the wraith; conspired with expedition members to deploy a biological weapon of mass destruction against the articles of war.

Lieutenant Colonel John Sheppard: Jeopardized the entire expedition by attempting an unwarranted rescue attempt and waking the entire population of wraith, loosing them upon the Pegasus Galaxy, costing an untold number of civilian lives lost; murdered a superior officer; willfully disobeyed a direct order from the expedition leader, Doctor Elizabeth Weir, and thereby exposed numerous civilian members to a lethal nanovirus; sanctioned torture of an innocent civilian, against the code of conduct; murdered a hostile prisoner and allowed another to be a subject of medical experimentation; intentionally allowed an island of convicted violent criminals to freely leave through an unallied world’s Stargate, in direct violation of the wants and conditions set upon said prisoners by their lawful government, thereby placing other societies at risk, and causing the culling of the world’s innocent population at the hands of the wraith; willfully disobeyed a direct order from a military superior officer, leading to the endangerment of self and destruction of government property; failed to secure Doctor Elizabeth Weir after evidence of an alien entity having taken possession of her mind and body, and in fact, allowed an alien consciousness to take control over his mind and body, leading to a near fatal situation, not only for himself, but for others put at risk by the alien Phoebus ; conspired with expedition members to deploy a biological weapon of mass destruction against the articles of war.

Colonel Steven Caldwell: Failed to secure Doctor Elizabeth Weir after evidence of an alien entity having taken possession of her mind and body was presented (per the charges levied against Lieutenant Colonel John Sheppard), and further, allowed the compromise of the Atlantis military commander by the separate alien entity Thalan, almost costing the life of multiple expedition members at the hands of the two aforementioned entities; failed to alter command codes leading to the direct danger from Halon gas exposure and allowing the alien entity Phoebus to gain control over Atlantis systems and highly sensitive information; conspired with expedition members to deploy a biological weapon of mass destruction against the articles of war.

Doctor Radek Zelenka: Conspired with expedition members to deploy a biological weapon of mass destruction against the articles of war.

The case is suspended until a future date to be determined.

I love this because you don't have to go to extremes to see how dark the Atlantis folks can be.

I'm sure Radek is like, "Only one charge on my record. Score!" But seriously, if the Atlantis expedition was ever called to the carpet for what they've done in Pegasus, believe that the list of charges would be long and in most cases, justified. I mean, hello, waking the wraith? An accident. Dooming a whole planet to said wraith? Not so much. Or: developing a drug with an unfortunately high mortality rate? An accident. Violating your oath as a doctor by forcefully experimenting on a living, sentient being? Not so much.

Yes. Just absolutely yes.

And now I'm curious about what comments you're referencing in your reply above.
