While the thought of all those bodies is incredibly creepy, the thought that the genuinely forgotten dead are in some way cared for is, in a weird way, nice.
In my imagined ending the sensation they had near the gate is the Lamenters watching as they go home, in their own way happy that some of the forgotten dead return to the living, if that makes sense?
