Author's Notes: Companion piece to “First Assignment”. Lieutenant Zelenka would not leave me alone! Not beta read, so all mistakes are my own. Slipping this one in before the deadline.

Lieutenant Zelenka leaned against the streetlamp on the edge of the river, head bowed against the persistent drizzle, watching his target approach as he attempted to light a cigarette.

“Excuse me,” he called out as he fumbled with the lighter, “Do you have a light? Mine seems to be wet from all this damn rain.”

The man changed his course slightly to walk over to Zelenka. He produced a lighter and lit Zelenka’s cigarette.

“Thanks, friend. Would you like one?” he offered his pack to the other man.

“Yes, I would. Thank you,” he replied and took one of the offered cigarettes and lit it himself.

Zelenka struck without warning, striking the back of the man’s head, knocking him instantly unconscious. He grabbed the satchel hanging from the man’s shoulder as he slid to the ground. Zelenka nudged the limp form with his foot, sending the man sliding down the rain and ice slick rocks to the river below. The Vltava swept the body away in its rain-swollen waters, the ultimate executioner. He noticed dispassionately the blood smear that led to the water’s edge where the man must have struck his head as he fell to the waters below.

The police would find the body and quickly determine the man had accidentally slipped on some ice and drowned in the river. The minimal investigation would be one of the lowest priority. The police had more important things to worry about.

Zelenka casually walked away, adjusting the satchel he now carried, taking it to his superiors. He smoked his cigarette, avoiding a patch of dirty, rain-slick ice as he walked through the increasingly heavy rain. The traitor should have known to be more careful on the still-icy streets of Prague in spring. They held more dangers than most people realized. It was unfortunate the man died a quick and painless death. It was more than the bastard deserved.

That was so cool! Thank you. And why it should be the dark side? He was just doing his job!

It just makes him a better man (I mean the capability to say 'what have I done?'). I'd much prefer Zelenka as a remorseless killer (who kills without hesitation, but without the desire to see his enemy tortured/humiliated), than... ahem... some other SGA characters, who... argh! I shouldn't think of them again, it just drives me crazy.

Thank you! I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who sees Radek Zelenka in this light! I hope you decide to write more Zelenka stories, in any timeline, one of these days.
