I like this. I like this A LOT.

You have no idea how happy that makes me. I'm never sure if my stuff's actually any good, or if it's just me fooling myself. I like it (otherwise I wouldn't write it), but that doesn't say much about anything except me.

I confess to wondering what the other history on his back was.

Me too. It was one of those things where I wrote it and then said, "Huh. I didn't know that." At some point those scars (presumably they're scars - I'm not sure) are going to get their own story, I think. If only so that question will stop bugging me.

I like the way you subtly slide in that yeah, there's magic, and yeah, people know of it, it's not that big a deal.

Most of my stories have that element in them somewhere - I find it interesting, and am endlessly entertained in figuring out the details of how that would affect things. But in this case it was pretty much just that I wanted to give John wings because (as you say) Sheppard + the sky, high and infinitely clear = OTP par excellence. Even more (in my opinion) than John + Atlantis. He loves Atlantis, but what he is, down to his very core, is a pilot - the need to fly is intrinsic to him.
