I like the approach you've taken, that the 'worst' part of the experience is that John was missing, both memories and his forgotten life, and that Rodney was missing him--not so much the switch, or the aftermath.
Oh, you've summed up exactly what we were trying to do! I really felt worse for Rodney in this, actually, because Rodney knew what he was missing while John, as Shon're, only knew that s/he was missing something. We also wanted to show how a sexswitch might not be the worse thing ever for a character. *g*
