CAKE OR DEATH?

(No, really, that's it, that's the whole challenge. It's the "Cake or Death" challenge. SGA with cake; SGA with death. Okay, if you don't know what I"m talking about, click here, and watch the bit. It's very funny. But that's not even important. The story just has to feature cake or death. Put cake or death in the headers.)

(Okay, except my unindicted co-moderator [livejournal.com profile] merryish is poking me, and so yes, it can be cake AND death, or death by cake.) (Also, yes, yes, yes, you can make it abstract and have it be about choices, weird choices, easy choices, totally obvious choices, because, as Eddie says, "Cake or Death?" is a no-brainer. "Cake, please!")

(Sigh, yes, you can also have the chicken.) (I'll come in again.)

Today is July 25th; stories will be due August 8th at midnight eastern.

I'd write a lemon cake story, but I have a feeling 15 other people have already started theirs, so I'll see if I can think of something else. *g*

Oh, I think I can come up with something. Though the siren call of Rodney hitting those high, girly notes with "Lemon cake? Are you insane?! That's baked death!" is hard to resist.

LOL! That was my immediate reaction too. Maybe... lemon muffins? Or lemon cheesecake? Or... uh... this is kind of revolting, but where I grew up we called piles of animal dung 'cakes', how about some lemon-devouring herbivore leaves a pile of 'cake' right where Rodney could stumble into it?

We generally call those cookies, but cakes make more sense. *g* And that would definitely lead to hours of "fun" crankiness on Rodney's part.

I remember reading about a guy with a peanut allergy who had an anaphylactic reaction after he got hit with spider monkey poo.

Heh... lemon 'cake', two bad experiences in one!

Heh. Yeah, I'm like that. I've written Puddlejumper/Giant Mutant Hippo smut. It's just something that got wired wrong in my brain.

"Dressed to Kill" is generally considered a good place to start, and has the "Cake or Death" bit.

As others have said, it is 'Dress to Kill.' Which is not to say you shouldn't watch 'Circle.' Because you should. Right now.

I won't be writing anything, but thank you for this challenge! It is so great to find other SGA fans who are Eddie fans! Love it!

Dress to Kill Rocks, they all rock, but it's a good place to start and that is where I started. :)

Really, I want the story where Atlantis Goes Colonial, and starts conquering the Pegasus galaxy with the cunning use of flags.

Ha! I can so see that!

John: I claim this planet for Atlantis!

Natives: You can't claim us, we've lived here since the Ancestors were around!

Rodney: Do you have a flag, hmm? No? Oh that's a shame, no flag, no planet, I'm afraid. And lookie here what I've got in my extremely useful bag- a flag! No point bitching about it. Thems the rules that I've just made up. And Colonel Kirk here will back them up with the P90 he got from the SGC.

...or something...

OK, OK - question: Does it have to be entirely SGA or can I include Daniel Jackson? (It would still be set in the Pegasus galaxy and all other characters would be from SGA)

I LOVE YOU FOR EDDIE IZZARD IS LOVE. When I was 16 I learnt how to say that entire sketch in Russian. It is part of my life. I must now think of a way to write a story for it, I cannot not do this challenge.

Incidentally, is it allowed to post more than one response? 'Cause I kind of have two. Of course, one kind of scares me, and I'm not at all sure it wouldn't be better for everyone involved if I metaphorically put it down and backed very carefully away... (You know the spirit of the challenge? Take the inverse.)

But even if I did, I know myself well enough to know I'd need to have this question answered at some point, heh...

Idea for a challenge?

Date: 2007-08-06 04:49 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fiercelydreamed.livejournal.com
If I understood the instructions on the community info, this is the right place for me to offer a challenge idea. If it isn't ... well, this won't be my first incident of fandom foot-in-mouth disease. *chagrin*

I'd love to see a wordless challenge. I've always dug stories where the characters have to deal with a communication barrier, and there's a lot of different ways to take that on (situations that impose silence, medical conditions like deafness or aphasia, dealing with a literal language barrier, etc.). I didn't see anything like this in the challenge history, and I couldn't resist suggesting it.

Thanks (and let me know if there's somewhere else I should comment with this instead).

challenge suggestion

Date: 2007-08-13 09:57 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] laceymcbain.livejournal.com
I'd like to see a "Fight or Flight" challenge. It leaves a lot of possibilities given how often our heroes stand and fight, avoid a fight, fight nanoviruses, aliens, themselves and each other; and although, of course, flight suggests running from a fight, they do so in the greatest style with the puddlejumper, or even Atlantis. And with Sheppard at the controls, you can have fight and flight all at the same time! *g*
