[identity profile] zinfic.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] sga_flashfic
Since the challenge isn't officially closed yet, I'm posting this little snippet because I have recently discovered how much I adore a certain character.

Author: Zinnith
210 words
Gen, PG

When he was younger, he used to write poetry. He loved the words, loved shaping them into images of what he saw and what he felt. He remembers learning the art of writing from his teachers, learning how to use ink on paper to make the words pleasing to the eye as well as the ear. Once, he was a scholar as well as a warrior.

Many years have passed since then. He recalls the beginning, when he used sticks and wet sand to keep up the art, desperate to hold on to that last shred of home. He recited verses to himself in the night, poems he had written in her honour. When he closed his eyes, he could still see her clearly.

He doesn’t know exactly when he stopped. When he cast aside the memories, the verses, the words. He likes to think they are still inside of him, hiding somewhere deep down, just waiting for a chance to burst out.

There are times when his fingers ache for pens instead of weapons. When he wishes he could shape his world with ink instead of blood. There are times when he sits down, puts pen to paper, and waits for the words to come.
