Title: Limits
Author: [livejournal.com profile] terrie01
Summary: John's thoughts at the end of The Siege II.

There is a number in his head. It's bigger than zero, but less than one. A lot less. It represents the probability that he will get through this alive. It's a small number, and it won't get any bigger. Well, no, that's not completely true. As x approaches infinity, the limit of the function is 1. In the infinite possibilities of an infinite number of universes, he has a chance to survive. But infinity is a long way off. It dangles just out of reach.

Ooh, MathGeek!Shep. I figure he would strive for some semblance of logic in whatever life-threatening situation he gets himself into.

This is brilliant. Great characterization, and an interesting take on the challenge.

Only, (and I hesitate to point this out, especially as I'm afraid I've misspelled characterization, or possibly misspelled (I'm not dragging my dictionary out just to make a comment) but there are a couple of typos....

Possibilities and universes - and I had to get the dictionary out after all, because I wasn't sure how to spell possibilities myself - I just knew there had to b a 't' in there somewhere. *g*

Read this quickly at work when it was fresh and forgot that I didn't have time to say how much I liked it.

Would say more, but then this would be longer than the piece. *g*

I had been pondering some metaphor involving limits. I love that you applied the notion to John in the jumper. For all that this is short, it packs quite a punch.
