Zelenka-Centric, pre-atlantis, not betaed
He sighed. How had he gotten there? What had happened to his life?
"Okay... look at this. You see the X here?"
It was unfair! He had gone to university, had studied physics, chemistry and mathematics. And he had a damn PhD at engineering.
And what did he do with his knowledge now?
He was giving private lessons to pupils in mathematics. And he was a paint salesman.
"Now you need to..."
Radek sighed again. He didn't remember the word... again.
They had told him that he was something. That he was really good.
And he had been really good at home.
They had told him that he could be a lot more. He should go to a foreign country.
He had been someone at home.
Now, here in Germany he was nothing. Nothing but a paint salesman and private lessons teacher.
He was dangeling off a cliff and waiting to fall when the rock beneath his fingers would give way.
A knock at the door startled him and he jumped up.
"Yes?"
A soldier stood in front of his door.
"Radek Joschka Zelenka? I have orders to fetch you up."
Radek frowned. "Yes, that's me. But what... have I done?"
"I am only here to fetch you up. All I know is that someone has been really impressed by your work. You'd better pack a overnight bag, you might be gone for a few days."
Radek turned around. "Uhm... Josh? We have to finish for today. Sorry..."
The teen stood up and smiled. "It's okay. But you ain't in trouble, are you?"
"I hope I'm not!" smiled the Czeck and left the door open for the soldier before he got to his bedroom and suffed some clothes into an old worn traveling bag along with his toothbrush and razor, his spare glasses and some other stuff.
He still was dangeling off the cliff. But someone was holding out a hand to him. Perhaps he'd get up again, or he might fall... but either way he'd be moving again.
"I'm finished!" he announced to the soldier.
"Then let's go!"
He sighed. How had he gotten there? What had happened to his life?

Date: 2005-06-10 05:39 pm (UTC)I figure it's really frustrating to explain something you just know but you can't because you don't know the words.
Poor boy!

Date: 2005-06-10 02:01 pm (UTC)And, damn, I would have taken Zelenka as my private teacher back in the school days. Maybe I'd have actually liked maths, then.

Date: 2005-06-10 05:42 pm (UTC)But I thought that I'd be relatively safe if I'd use the name in a english fanfiction. >.<
The bunny jumped me when a classmate of mind told me about his brilliant Czech private teacher. ^^

Date: 2005-06-10 02:28 pm (UTC)The idea of Zelenka eking out a meager living as a maths tutor in a foreign country is rather touching.
Come to think of it, he kind of reminds me of a Chemistry teacher I had in eighth grade...guy was Hungarian, though.

Date: 2005-06-10 05:48 pm (UTC)What's "normal TV"???
Mhh, I thought about what our favourite Czech could have done before Atlantis and then that guy told me about his Czech private teacher who did not only know maths, but also chemistry and physics and... there was that idea...
Thanks for the praise!
