Title: Personal
Author: Rose Wilde-Irish
Pairing: Rodney/Radek
Rating: Teen
Summary: "No, Rodney, none of those. Why this sudden obsession to know my personal item?"
Notes: For
sga_flashfic challenge: Personal Item, and also dedicated to
ms_smooth who asked a while back for inspirational fic about moving. Since she's still packing, I figure this meets the qualification. Borrows from a similarly themed fic by
zortified. Thanks to
icie,
zortified,
roothekittykat, and
ms_smooth for input. Warning: High fluff content. Insulin optional.
"Was that your personal item?" Rodney asked, again, as Radek carefully placed the sculpture into a well-padded box.
"No, Rodney, this came on the last trip by the Daedalus. It's too big to have been my personal item from the trip through the gate, anyway."
Rodney moved over to the bookshelf and the box he was supposedly helping to pack. "One of these, then," he mused, examining the title before slipping it next to the others in the box. He did the same with the next, pausing to flip through the book, completely missing Radek's eyeroll.
"It was not a book."
"Something consumable, then? No, you're not that stupid. You'd want something to last. Maybe...the makings of a still? The one down by the desalinization tanks that I officially don't know about?"
Radek snorted. "As if I would waste personal item allotment on parts I could easily pull from excess stores," he said, and Rodney nodded.
"Pictures, then? Something nauseatingly embarassing from your childhood, like a security blankee or a teddy bear?"
"No, Rodney, none of those. Why this sudden obsession to know my personal item?"
Rodney put the book in the box and gave him a lopsided smile, his gaze as piercing as ever. Radek swore he felt the floor drop every time Rodney gave him what he'd started to catalog as that look. "I just think, you know, if I'm going to end up...cohabitating with someone, I should maybe have an idea about these sorts of things."
Radek set the item he was wrapping down and crossed the room to wrap his arms around Rodney, giving him a gentle kiss. "It's all right, Rodney," he soothed. "What is important to know about me, you already know."
Rodney rested his forehead against Radek and sighed, letting some of the tension drain out of him. "I suppose you're right," he said, getting a friendly swat before Radek moved back to his packing.
Rodney started once again on the books and the box, still mostly empty. Picking up another book, he paused. "I suppose this means you're never going to tell me, doesn't it?"
Radek grinned and kept on packing, not bothering to answer.
