Because, yeah, what this fandom really needs is more crack. *rolls eyes*.

All right, apologizing in advance, but from #primenotprime, I give you: the Harlequin Plot Challenge.
isilya: the feisty untameable rodney meets his mysterious benefactor!
shalott: omg!!
cim: how about the one where rodney is really, really rich and powerful and he sees john the independent girl and is like "i will pay you ten billion dollars to be my MISTRESS" and john says no, but then his mom is dying of cancer, and rodney will only save him if he MARRIES rodney!
isilya: rodney is a fashion model nursing a broken heart, when he meets an arrogant pilot and they crash land!

Uh, I guess the only direction I have for you people is--be unashamed. (like that's a problem for you people, ha!)

It's Saturday; stories are due on September 10th at midnight.

Edited to add, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] sweeneybird, a link to the Harlequin web site. I think in Britain, the analagous imprint is Mills and Boone. Citizens of other countries, I'm sure you've got similar trash imprints. Live the emotion!

More Harlequin plots:

You forgot the one where John is Rodney's secretary and secretly in love with him. John gets a make-over and suddenly Rodney is hot for his form.

Rodney and John are stepbrothers who secretly lust after one another. When their parents die in a horrible accident, they have to raise their siblings together (as deemed in their parents' will) and they fall in love.

However, my favorite is the tried but true, one night of passion leads to a pregnancy and of course the inevitable... marriage of convenience.

Can we say most of my teenage years was spent reading these books and I have plenty more plots if anyone is interested. *g*

Great idea!

Actually, one of my favorite challenges is "Want ads or Personals." I usually do more of the supernatural stuff, and a friend handed me an anthology called "Single White Vampire Seeks Same." Considering the usual crack on here...could you imagine an Atlantis Dating Service?

Crack does not explain this. Crack does not go nearly far enough to explain this. Smoking crack on top of LSD while taking hits off the nitrous *might* begin to explain this, but only if you include the magic mushrooms.

I remember one about a sexy research scientist being investigated by a studly FBI agent. The heiress who wants to take control of the company she just inherited away from Daddy's protege. The too-serious new owner of a toy company who needs to learn to have fun. The bachelor who takes in his dead sister's child and keeps running to the single parent next door for advice. The wealthy oil baron who falls for his inscrutable new lawyer and won't stop until he uncovers all the secrets in her past.

Not that I'm making requests or anything.

Oh, oh! And there's always the one about the very, very lonely person who thinks he is doomed to live without love, so orders a mail order spouse, possibly to help raise his adorable children. But the mail order spouse is hot and secretly on the run from a troubled past!

Oh! And then there's the one about the new sheriff in town who gets seduced by the virtuous widow/widower with adorable children while the town gets hit by bank robbers and the widow/widower has to fend off the advances of a Dastardly Cad threatening financial ruin!

Also, there's the Really Hot Native who nurses the lonely loner back to life and teaches him or her all about their wonderful and ritual filled world, with a side order of Hot Native Rivals and Skeezy Civilized Rivals.

What? Why do you think I read the westerns? Where did you get that idea?

This is probably going to seem like a silly question, but I wanted to be sure on the offchance I try to go for this challenge.

Does the couple have to be Rodney and Mckay? I have no objections to that, but I'm being pulled in other directions, at the moment.

Ahem -- any way you guys could extend this challenge? These stories are GREAT! (and I'm really enjoying the nice light & fluffy counter to the daily events unfolding around us).

Also, it sounds like there are people who are still having good ideas & trying to write them.

OK. Have a suggestion for a challenge. I love a good horror story, so what about a challenge based on the titles of horror movies, i.e. "Fright Night," "The Haunting", "Cat People".
Writers could write whatever they wanted, be it horror, comedy or romance, as long as it fit the title.
I figured with Halloween coming up, this might be an easy suggestion.
Thanks!
