Title: Prince of Desire (Harlequin Challenge)
Pairing: Carson Beckett/Aiden Ford
Rating: PG
Summary: A remote cabin in the backwoods and a handsome Prince.  Carson Beckett's sabbatical just became a little more interesting.
Notes: the premise is loosely based on Brenda Jackson's novel, Delaney's Desert Shiekh.  The crackfic is eating my brain.

Carson stood in the cabin's kitchen and stared at the handsome young man leaning indolently against the sink.

"This cannot be happening."

A smirk greeted his exclaimation.  "I beg to differ, Doctor Beckett.  It seems that Bates made a mistake when he promised us both use of his cabin this weekend."  Sparkling brown eyes made a leisurely perusal of Carson's body, causing the other man to flush.  "But I think it may be possible for us to work out some sort of arrangement."

Carson folded his arms defensively.  "If you are going to sugggest that I leave, lad, I'm afraid I'll have to disappoint you.  I came up here to get work done not babysit a young layabout like you."

Aiden laughed and walked around the table until he stood right in front of Carson.  "You have me all wrong, Doctor.  May I call you Carson?  Calling you 'Doctor' is just a little too formal for me."

Carson swallowed and said, "Aye, Carson's just fine."  He wished Aiden would take a few steps back.  Being the subject of such intense scrutiny made him decidedly nervous, in more ways than one.

"Good, good!"  Aiden clapped his hands then rubbed them together.  "The way I figure it, there's more than enough room for us to stay here together.  It's only for two weeks and I'll be gone most days working with my negotiating team."

"Negotiating team?  Just what is it that you're here for?"

"Oh, I'm sorry, I'm here to sign a treaty between our countries.  I'm from Atlantis."

Carson's eyes widened.  "Atlantis?  But I thought that the Prince..."  Even as the words left his mouth, his mind started to put together the bits and pieces of information he had before him: the remote location, Aiden's deceptively casual yet quality clothing, the mussy-haired (yet very competent looking) bodyguard standing out on the porch.  "Oh, my God," he said weakly.  "You're..."

"Prince Aiden Ford of Atlantis, at your service."

The air seemed to rush out of Carson at that moment, taking with it whatever bit of righteous indignation he still had left.  He felt just a little lightheaded.  "I think I need to sit down."

Immediately concerned, Aiden pulled out one of the chairs from the table and grasping Carson's arm, guided him into it.  He went to one knee beside the older man and touched him on the shoulder.  "You okay?" he asked gently.

"As well as can be expected when someone tells you that they're the Prince of the most technologically superior countries in the world." Carson fixed him with a look.  "You like shocking people?"

Aiden's wicked grin caused a thrill to run up and down Carson's spine.  "Are you sure it's just shock that you're feeling, Carson?" he asked silkily as he ran his fingers from Carson's shoulder to brush lightly against the skin of his neck.  "Or is it something else?"

Carson brushed his hand away but Aiden's touch had stirred something inside him.  Something he was not prepared to deal with at all.  "Of course it's shock, what else would it be?"  He knew he sounded waspish but he needed to get Aiden away from him as quickly as possible.  "What am I supposed to call you?  Your majesty?"

The prince stood up and looked down at Carson.  "I'd like it if you called me Aiden," he said.

"Alright, Aiden."

Aiden cocked his head and smiled.  "My name sounds nice when you say it."

The doctor was take aback by Aiden's words.  "I..." he began only to be cut off by Aiden swooping in and brushing his lips lightly across his own before taking a step or two back.  He looked at his watch and grinned at Carson again.

"I think this is going to work out just fine," he said lightly and started to walk out of the kitchen.  As he reached the door, Aiden stopped but he didn't turn around.  "I hope to hear you say my name again, Carson, just in a different...context."

Carson roused himself enough to say, "It will never happen."

A soft laugh greeted his defiant claim, "We'll see about that, won't we?"  Then he was gone.

If that one interaction was any indication, Carson knew that the next two weeks were going be very, very long.

Oh my... is there more to come?

I really like it! I have to confess I thought you were talking about John first. But it fits Aiden just as perfectly.

A friend of mine linked me to this, and I'm very glad he did. It was very sweet, and I just love when Carson and Aiden get a chance to be together. I do hope you'll consider continuing it, as it really is lovely. Thanks for writing!

I'm very sorry I didn't reply to you sooner! Thanks so much for the encouragement. I hope to take it up again but if I do, it'll probably be in December after National Novel Writing Month.

It was cool to write and just presented the sweetest setup. Plus it helps that there's something about Ford and Beckett that makes me all wiggly.
