About the Book
Image stylist and media consultant John Sheppard’s new client may be a stereotypical science guy, but John’s convinced that he can turn Dr. Rodney McKay into a man no one could resist. The raw material is there, just buried beneath the geek.
Even though Rodney is strangely, adamantly and loudly attached to his appalling wardrobe, those outfits are history. Putting new clothes on him has revealed a sexy version of Rodney…one who is inviting John’s hands all over him.
Before John knows how it happened, in spite of the snarking and snapping and neuroses, Rodney’s got him utterly seduced. Turns out astrophysics isn’t the only area where Rodney shows complete genius. Looking this good with those nimble fingers, there’s no way John can let him go.
Inside flap
Ten years ago John Sheppard was the golden boy with the world’s top aeronautics company, then fate threw him from the plane without a parachute. Now, partner and CEO of F3, his life is about talking points and the correct cut of suit rather than inertial dampeners and G-forces. On the outside, John’s charming and in command, but inside there’s a loneliness that he can no longer ignore…
Rodney McKay has spent his life devoted to science, his world consisting of numbers, theories and a life lived in a lab coat. Known for his difficult personality as well as his genius mind, he and his team of devoted scientists have discovered a new source of power that will revolutionize the world’s view on energy. His discovery is about to thrust them into the limelight. Rodney uses his brilliance and his personality to keep others at arm’s legnth, but the longing for someone to see through it all -- to see him-- burns strong…
When F3 is hired to prepare Dr. Rodney McKay for his worldwide press conference, neither man can imagine what will happen next. Will Rodney see past the artfully tousled hair and the sleek black clothing to find his heart’s desire? Can John push past the superior attitude and tragic attire to find the geek of his dreams? Will they ever realize their banter is really just foreplay?

Excerpt
John stood in front of his closet and sighed. He dressed people for a living, taught them what was appropriate for almost any event. Why was he having such a hard time now?
Because it’s Rodney, idiot, he said to himself. Impressing Fortune 500 CEOs and world leaders is easy. You’re not falling in love with any of them.
In the end, he decided on his favorite black shirt with the zipper in front and a pair of gray cargo pants – casual enough for whatever Rodney had in mind, but nice enough that it couldn’t go unappreciated. He was just fastening his watch when he heard the buzzer of his front door.
With a grin, he grabbed his sunglasses and headed out of his condo.
And stopped dead in his tracks.
Three months before, Rodney would’ve probably been wearing unflattering khakis, a thermal, and some incarnation of Hawaiian shirt. Now he was wearing a pair of slightly faded jeans and a charcoal shirt with the top two buttons undone, allowing just the barest glimpse of chest hair to show. Rodney had a set of car keys in one hand and a pair of sunglasses in the other.
“Ready?” John could almost feel the sweep of Rodney’s gaze as it raked across his body.
“Lead the way,” John put on his sunglasses and extended his hand toward the door. “Where are we going, anyway?”
“You’ll see. It’s one of my favorite places.”
Outside, Rodney opened the car door for John and looked around at the windows of the surrounding condominiums.
“What would your neighbors think if I just sorta did this?”
Slipping his free arm around John’s waist, Rodney brought their bodies and mouths together in a slow and thorough kiss.
“Mmmm,” John hummed, resting his forehead against Rodney’s. “Nice.”
That earned John a smile and a quick, almost shy kiss before Rodney walked around to the either side of the car and got in.
***
“Can I ask you something?” Rodney started the car. “It might sound a bit strange, and I feel like I should know this already, but I don’t, so I’m asking.”
“Sure,” John said, ignoring the pick up of his pulse as he waited for Rodney’s question.
“What does F3 stand for? Fashion, Finesse and, what, Footwear?” He looked over at John, a furrow creasing his brow.
John couldn’t help the exhaled smile that broke out across his face and he shook his head a little. “Ferris wheels, flying, and football – three of my favorite things. When Elizabeth and I decided to strike out on our own, we were brainstorming until all hours of the night and we ended up flipping a coin to see what we’d name the company. I won.”
“And people think I have an ego,” Rodney said, shifting the car into gear.
***
“One of my favorite places” turned out to be a lookout point in the mountains just off the main road that looked as though it had been abandoned for years; the wildflowers were clearly beginning to win the battle with the gravel.
“I wouldn’t have taken you for an outdoorsy kind of guy,” John admitted as he went to stand next to Rodney.
“I’m not,” Rodney slipped his hands into his pockets. “Too many bugs that I’m allergic to and plants that make you itch, and the UV is more intense up here.”
“But this is one of your favorite places?” John couldn’t help but smile, the contradiction somehow making perfect sense coming from Rodney.
“As long as I’m careful of my surroundings and remember my sunblock, it’s perfect. No one bothers me unless I want them to.” Inquisitive, intelligent, and hopeful blue eyes held John’s gaze.
I want you to, John heard as clearly as if Rodney had said the words aloud.
It was almost too much and John had to look away, towards the view and the twist and turns of the road as it wound along the side of the mountain.
"Do you have to wear this?" John felt Rodney’s fingers touch his earpiece and lightly trace down the curve of his jaw.
“No.” John reached up subconsciously, his fingers tangling with Rodney’s. “It’s habit, I guess. In case...”
“You won’t need it,” Rodney said softly, lifting off the earpiece and tossing it onto the gravel beside them.
John did the only thing he could think to do--he turned his hand, lacing his fingers with Rodney's as he turned his head to kiss him.

Minor picky thing, but shouldn't that be arm's length?
Oh, and I would *pay* for an icon that said "geek of his dreams." Or maybe "geek of my dreams," hmmmm.
Great ficlet, very sweet;)
