And lo, there was a cry throughout the land, from people like [livejournal.com profile] shellmidwife and [livejournal.com profile] z_rayne, asking for a challenge about food. Apparently this great swelling of culinary-type-interest can be laid at the door (can a swelling be laid at--oh, never mind) of [livejournal.com profile] thefourthvine who has apparently been writing stories about chocolate-chip cookies and spanakoptica. Which--yummy. Plus Hth's fantastic pot story from the last challenge has given me the munchies.

So let's do it, and just in case anyone out there is allergic or dieting, I'm invoking my God Given Administrative Right to name challenges after New Wave Album Titles. So this challenge must produce "Stories About Buildings and Food."

So write about food or architecture, people; both if you're feeling fancy.

It's Wednesday by my watch; stories will be due Wednesday, October 19th at midnight.

Food? Oh sweet. Um, pun not intended.

It's been awhile since I did one of these, and I have to ask, I know I can only post something here while the challenge is on, but can it be a story that is part of a sort of universe thing I have already done stories in?

LOL!! Oh, you are cruel. I was so trying to get away from writing about food, and had said to myself. "Self," says I, "No more of this food business. Sandwiches, coffee, and hot peppers sound like a deli order, not a story collection."

So then, you add architecture to it, my second favorite thing to write about, LOL. I think I need to go subtitle my entire SGA index "stories about buildings and food."

In fact, I think I will.

Not sure about it, but does this include stories already posted to other communities?

I have actually written two short stories about food posted to the mckay-sheppard community within the last two months.

I do love the idea of food and swellings and stuff... :D

Nope, sorry! Stories have to be written for the challenge and not posted anywhere else for the duration (see the userinfo). But no reason you couldn't write another.... :-)

Hey, can I make a suggestion/throw out a thought for a future challenge? I've written a couple fics where among the usual "You rock" and "This was teh hawtness" were cries of "But you left poor [insert name here] all alone and angsty! You're going to write a sequel where you fix that, right?" I've also read fics where this was my reaction, even if I didn't say so in the comment I left. I'm sure it's a common reaction. But, alas, not everyone writes sequels. Which is where the challenge idea comes in:

No One Left Behind

Take a favourite story where someone was left lonely at the end and write a sequel where said lonely person finds love or at least comfort elsewhere. You should 1) Not undo the events of the story you're following up (i.e., If Rodney ends up with Weir leaving an unrequited Radek, you can't just break Rodney and Weir up so Zelenka's not lonely), 2) Try to keep to the same rating or less than the original fic so that those who could safely enjoy the original can also read yours (i.e. if the original fic was PG, you should avoid R or NC-17, but PG or G are okay), and 3) Ask permission of the original author.

Thoughts? Additions? Tomatoes?

Oh, I think that's a fantastic idea. Maybe it could be expanded a bit to include any story that *needs* a sequel?

To avoid hurt feelings, it might be a good idea to add a "contact the original author for permission" suggestion or requirement, although my personal reaction to being sequeled would be along the lines of a gleeful "OMG, she liked it, she really really liked it!!"

That would #3 above.

So would mine, unless, perhaps, I was working on a sequel myself. Though even then, seeing different outcomes could be kinda cool.

Oops, sorry. That's what I get for reading and posting before I've had my coffee!

Also, I thought about that, but wasn't sure how to fit it with "No One Left Behind" as a theme. Figuring out stuff like that is what our brilliant administratrs are for!

I *adored* the Harlequin challenge so much, and it gave me lots to think about around the relationship between slash and the romance genre and the whole is-it-romance/is-it-porn question that I still keeps popping up in various places, and so I was thinking: how about a Porn challenge?

C'mon, it could be great! Writers who normally have difficulties with sex scenes might be inspired to write the porniest porn they ever secretly imagined themselves writing! People could write stories in the form of letters to Penthouse Forum! Stories about the various members of the Atlantis expedition watching porn, or reading porn, or making porn! Stories with porn plots, like: Rodney McKay answers the door in a towel to find John Sheppard the hot pizza delivery boy! AND OMG, PORN STAR AU STORIES!!!

Anyway. ::fans self:: Just a thought. *g*
