John laid quietly, eyes staring blindly into the shadow filled room. Bloody visions filled with the screams of the dying colored his thoughts.

Why the hell didn't they all assume; water planet=shark-like creatures? Just because no one had seen them didn't mean they didn't exist. He should've known. It was his fucking job to know, to keep them safe!

He'd never have to hide his stash of coffee or fight for the covers on the cold Atlantean nights, ever again. John shut his eyes, praying for sleep that wouldn't come. The shining city cradled him and mourned her fallen sons.

Shiny picture, and very, very sad drabble. It's scary to think that it might just be overlooking something that could end things, rather than the big dramatic battle everyone expects.
