The sudden cessation of sound was deafening.

Marines and scientists froze in mirrored flying-wedge formations in the mess hall, butter knives in hand; outside, Teyla shook her head and wondered what had made her want to sing her troubles to the night sky; Elizabeth and Lorne fell onto the gate-room floor, mid-tango.

"Well," Rodney said, slightly breathless. "That seems to have stopped it."

John glared at him. "I told you to stop snapping your fingers."

"There are so many ways this was not my fault, Colonel High Kicks."

Smirk. "At least I'm not the one who sang I Feel Pretty."

I just started renting season 1 on DVD, and in the commentary on one episode, some of the actors were talking about having a musical episode. I'm sure they were joking; I mean, not every show's creators can be musical geniuses like Joss Whedon (I had no idea he could do music at all before that, and then the quality of the music AND lyrics blew me away). But it *would* be pretty cool if it happened, and if it did, I could totally see it happening exactly the way you wrote it. :-D

The alien music, by the way, is like a bad eighties power ballad about love, and they have some sort of ancient device that reads your brainwaves and makes projects words you can read on a screen. McKay takes the lead and Shep sings backup. Teyla just tries to keep a straight face; Ronon tells them later that he thought the lyrics were really touching.
