Oh, this was so very nice. I'm fond of Elizabeth as a character, and it's nice to see her rounded out this way.

The fourth one just broke me. I can totally see this. This gets to the core of what she is, and it's part of why she can come off a little stilted on the show, because she has to hold everything in so tightly.

Here, where no one can hear her, she gives voice to the ragged gasping sobs she holds so tightly leashed the rest of the time. “No one died today,” she whispers, grateful and half-laughing. “Oh God, no one died.”

Thank you! That's exactly what I was trying to do for myself...sort of mentally round out her character and look at her from different angles to see if I could find her "voice". She is very often tightly reined on the show, and I think that's offputting for a lot of people, but I enjoyed delving a little into the reasons behind it. So thanks again.

Just wanted to say that I liked these glimpses of Weir behind the facade she must maintain. There should be more good Weir fic out there. I'm afraid the show's writers haven't yet quite learned how to do her character justice.

I am not usually a Weir fan, but you've given her so much depth in these brief little glimpses that I can't help but like her here. Such a joy to read.

Thank you! I don't think there could be a better compliment than making someone read against their preferences and still like it. My favorite writers do that to me all the time.
