I'd like to report a few mistranslations/interpretations in the ongoing database translation project. Since we still aren't clear on how the Ancients organized the database, a large number of "genre fiction" documents have been mixed in at seeming random with poetry, religion, scientific research papers and documentaries on a wide variety of subjects. (It reminds me a lot of my bookcase in college, in fact.)
So far, we've found out that:
--_Roads of Light_ is a work of "historical fiction." Not an actual biography of the inventor(s) of the stargate.
--_Shadow Mazes_ is not a religious text, it's more like the Silmarillion.
--_The Stone, The Star, The Seed_ is a collection of science fiction stories, not a science journal.
--_The Ruminations of Pi_ is the Ancient equivalent of "Flatland"
--_Hedge of Swords_ is a work of military sf. (Which should have been obvious, but Benson was positive it was a Ancient translation of a Asgardian military philosophy text.)
--The entire "Three Black Stones" section is a forum for what appears to be fanfiction and debate for a popular series of books. The same goes for "Arch of Heaven" "Countless Stars," "Entropy" and "Heroic Visions"
We should have something resembling a "rule of thumb" for identifying and sorting fiction from nonfiction in a couple days. I've spoken with the people responsible for the mistakes and have been assured they'll pay more attention to what they're reading in the future.
