Ever After
"I really, really hate you," John hissed at Rodney, not for the first time and certainly not for the last time. "I would have thought that by now we'd be finished with the crazy, alien bonding rituals."
Rodney turned his head only a fraction. "Shut up and smile at the marriage commissioner, John."
John smiled tightly at the little white-haired lady in the blue robe standing just a few feet across their backyard under a little white awning that Rodney's nieces had spent the morning festooning with far too many streamers. And then he felt Rodney's fingertips, cool and steady, reach out and caress his palm.
"I don't really hate you," John said finally. "I just dislike you a lot."
"The feeling's mutual. Shall we?" Rodney said.
"Yeah," John sighed. "Why the hell not?"

And they lived ... well, like most people do, but with more aliens and a much shorter refractory period for men their age.
And they loved each other a whole lot.
