I read it as Beckett. All the times he has to 'volunteer' to do things or someone will come along and 'volunteer him'.

Hmm...you know, I could see the first one being Elizabeth: she has to make tough decisions either way, but if she waits for the "push" she risks looking indecisive.

I'm really curious about both, actually! (And I love the text/image combination of the first.)
