I was also skeptical about their process--whose, the villagers? or the characters? Do you mean that the ritual--as John said--sounded like total bullshit, but was persuasively transformative?

The Villager's ritual sounded like a bullshit way to become a virgin again. I suppose I was in John's place. Then, as we went down the river, the idea became less crazy, and then completely realistic.
