SUMMARY: When you ask for help, be careful who you ask. (Semi-Evil!Atlantis... again. *sighs* I blame my Muse)

It killed them, again and again. Sometimes fast, sometimes slow. Sometimes at the claws of an enemy, sometimes at the hands of a friend. It made them choose, over and over, soul-wrenching choices that killed one to save the many; to save another; to save themselves. And in the end, when they were sobbing and broken, it dropped them.

Rodney was the last, cocooned in pulsing fields of blue and amber, fighting through the choices, fighting and refusing to be broken. And when she let him go, Atlantis marked him with her sigil. Guinevere had her Lancelot, Atlantis had McKay.

I can't say I like it, but we may be on the same wavelength.

I was just thinking how McKay has often seemed to be SGA's anti-Daniel: Instead of insisting everyone around him be better than they think they can be, he is the only one of the expedition who tries to be better than he thinks he can be.

This one seemed to be the only one that no one liked, ah well, can't win them all. ^_^

I was just thinking that out of everyone, Rodney is the only one who could be dark when he had to be without it breaking him somehow. Because he knows he can do better. He's the only one that can look at impossible situations and realize they are impossible... and make the choices that have to follow. He’s already broken twice, and each time he’s come out stronger. I don't think he'll break again.

I don't think Elizabeth or John could really deal with that kind of stress on a perpetual basis without cracking. They both seem to fall into guiltily reminiscing too much. Ronon and Teyla both have things that hold them back from really putting Atlantis first, but Rodney really doesn’t have anything to stop him.

Besides, if she needs a Lancelot to save her from Arthur, who else would do it?

Meh, anywho, it was a fun plotbunny to play with, even if it turned out to be a dud. ^_^

I figured Atlantis isn't a stupid city, she'd test them to make sure the person she picked as her avatar was going to make the right choices, even if they weren't good choices.

Yeah, I think that's the question though, between good and right choices.
And no way is Atlantis stupid, I mean she was built by the ancients they're going to have built certain things into her.

Okay, see, now I'm curious to see what this means. If Atlantis has taken him as the only one pragmatic enough not to break, what will she do with him now that she has him?

My Muses area having infinite amounts of fun with those possibilities! Unfortunately I probably won't get it done in time for this challenge (unless the Muses play really nice this weekend), but hopefully I'll have something for beta-ing before too long. *crosses fingers* Not that it stops anyone else from playing with the idea if they'd like to! ^_^

Because you never know what the Ancients will do now that their city (and their secrets) are fighting alongside the humans… *grin*
