Title: Mission Report
Characters: Teyla, Pegasus
Length: 141 words / 1 minute 49 seconds
Rating: G
Notes: Thanks to Ces for everything.
Er. I figured Teyla has an oral culture.

Mission Report [ 2.5mb mp3 ] Zipped.

I can sing this high mind rhyme
The day was long
The sky was fine
We spread our hands and our smiles wide
Our jewels reflected in their eyes

Ragged and thin they took us in
And washed our bodies from their water skins
We took their comfort and gave them toys
We kissed their girls
And beat their boys

Oh, ho, how can we go?
How can we travel with our cloak of woe?
How can we meddle in these hungry lives?
Bellies so full and our clear blue skies

Oh the hearth is cold and the wraith are blue
Ring of the ancestors sky is too

What's done is done
That war is won
And guilt is the indulgence of the favoured son
The day was long
The sky was fine
We spread our hands and our smiles wide

And I made a sort of vid to go with it:

video [ 16mb divX , 10mb .m4v , 57mb .mov ] Zipped.

Many thanks to Oxoniensis for hosting.

That is truly amazing work. I was thrilled to see that you'd made a new vid, and wow, yes! It's so in keeping with Teyla, words and song and the imagery in the video. You are truly multi-talented!

i am so utterly impressed with your creativity!!! lovedlovedloved the multimedia lim ;-) the song and the lyrics were great and very teyla, and the vid was beautiful, very fitting, and interesting in the way the sea and the fish (eh, dolphins at times?) overlaid everything. i especially loved the puddle jumper/dolphin imagery as well as the mild femslash i saw lurking there, maybe??? ;-)

thank you!!!!

Fascinating! Loved the mixture of formats. This... what'll I call it... this *presentation* made me see how powerful great fan work is in fandom. Because something like this sparks people's imaginations, wakes them up. I don't think you'll find many people who dislike Teyla, but still she's so hugely unrepresented in fandom, and I love that something like this was created around her, because it's an inspiration, really. Lovely! Sharks and Sora and the everyday...

What an utterly cool idea, to take hints (the little, teeny, tiny ones we get, wah!) about Teyla's culture and really, really *run* with it. Awesome.

I'm still downloading the vid (on dial-up, but I'm motivated), but I've already listened to the song a couple times and love it. Thank you for sharing this!

Wow. This was excellent. I loved all the ocean imagery in the video. I first thought the song was a commercial release and went looking for the artist and album name, because I really liked the sound of it, but then I realized it was yours! Amazing.

Wow. That was just beyond awesome - the lyrics and dude, you have a great singing voice. And what a creative interpretation of the challenge! I'm impressed.

Also, the vid is incredibly vivid. Spot-on Teyla. I like the clips and effects you used, especially the colouring in the first SGA scene and that blend of Atlantis and John.

I loved this to pieces both the vid and the song, it's alien and has a sense of history and everything. I especially loved the theme of life running through the vid, which is something that I think a culture such as Teyla's preyed upon by the Wraith would treasure.

Wow, this is gorgeous, both to listen to and to watch! Did it take you a long time to figure out how to overlap the vocal parts? Did you use a (piano-type) keyboard to figure out the arrangement?

I can guess that a lot of time went into this--I set one of [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge's poems to music, a few months ago, and it was way fun to do but not quick, and that was a lot simpler, musically, than this, and no video, either!

I particularly liked how you mingled the shark and dolphin visuals--lots of symbolism, right there--age-old enemies, differences and similarities, not easy to tell which is which in the first few seconds of encounter...yeah!

Also, I'm curious about the instruments you used--acoustic or electronic? Sounds a bit like a hurdy-gurdy and what Ursula Le Guin called a "handhitter" in Always Coming Home, but those are just guesses.

Very, very cool. *applauds* :D
