Yes, it's our end of the year wrap up--write for ANY--yes, ANY!!--of our previous challenges! Missed the Harlequin Challenge back in the day? Go for it! Never finished that Mission Report? Hey, we accept late paperwork. Interested the Seven Deadly Sins? We're gluttonous for them. And there's always the classic 38 Minutes challenge: write a story in 38 minutes and turn it in!

Please note for the reader what challenge you're writing for, and now, with our new tags system, you can DOUBLY TAG it: tag it Amnesty 2006 as well as by challenge name. You can find a complete list of challenges here or in the sidebar of the main [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic page.

We'll run Amnesty through the end of the year; new challenges will begin on January 1, 2007.

It may be early for this, since we have plenty of ideas, it seems... but what about a Required Item challenge. I.e., the story must contain the following item: ---

--- can be, for instance, a doghouse, a camel, a hairbrush, an eggbeater, a robot, a backhoe, etc... any wacky old thing. :D

Meh, every fanfic group does that, frequently. Why should this group join the pack?

You could put a twist on it: Use some item in an unusual but perfectly valid way. Or how about a challenge in which an item appears in a context you wouldn't normally find it, and is not named so the reader has to guess? For example, it was independently developed by a culture for some use, or a scientist or engineer or soldier is using it because there's nothing purpose-built for some need. That could be a lot of fun especially if it doesn't have to be critical to the story, just a facet of it. Also, it doesn't have to strictly be an Earth item, just be a lot like one. That would allow for stories in which a Lantian is able to supply an Earth item that is a good replacement.

It's a good writing challenge too: Can you mention the use of an item without boring or bewildering the reader?

Well, I did assume that people would not be attempting to write uninteresting stories. I mean, if the item chosen was a hairbrush, I hardly expected the quality writers on this list to turn out 30 stories about people fixing their hair. ;D

But yeah, I am new to the whole fanfic list thing, so I'm sorry for the unoriginal idea. Though I still think it could be interesting if the item were something very unusual.

I do like the secret guess-the-item idea you mentioned. Or how about a MacGuyver or Rube Goldberg challenge, using random household items (household for Atlantis, anyway) to construct something new.

Are we allowed to write more than one for this? IE, a Harlequin and a 38 Minutes, or some other combination?

That was what I meant -- I have two stories in progress that fulfill separate challenges, and I was just going to post them to my journal....

Thanks for the clarification. :-D

Can we get a Nerd Alert challenge? We know more than one character in the show is hiding some nerdy knowledge or geeky past, and it'd be awesome to get some of the minor characters out there, getting their nerd on. Personally, I've heard that Major Lorne is a bit of a closet dance nerd...

Very exciting! I have been reading here for quite a while but haven't managed to get anything written in time yet.

Just wanted to check - seems like anything and everything (within reason) is welcome here so long as it is posted properly, at least 100 words and answers the challenge.

Just to check - Crossovers are fine as well? I can't remember seeing any...

hiya! welcome and hope you get to finish and post something soon. This one's a great opportunity for your half-done ones. ;)

Just wanted to ask, where is that picture in your awesome icon from?

I am not quite sure...I think it is from some pics David and Kate actually snapped while working on "McKay & Mrs. Miller". One or the other posted it to thier blog??

For a definitive answer, check out the icon maker's post (and some alternate text) HERE (http://brendanm720.livejournal.com/102962.html#cutid1). Credit if you swipe and tell him I sent you if you comment, we're old friends. :D

So... I'm really not sure if this would work, but I've been thinking about the fun of a Spam Challenge: write a story based on the next piece of spam that hits your inbox. For instance, I just got something that included the paragraph "At eight weeks we went in for an ultrasound and it was. Without this symbol, Yahoo! Bestiality free animal sex pictures horse sex stories. are still personalized with your Yahoo!" Could I write a story about that? Who knows...

So...if you happen to be so grossly over the word count that your story is too big for one post, do you prefer to have it posted in two parts here, or linked from another LJ if the author—and by 'the author,' I mean 'my technologically stunted self'—has problems with web pages?

If I had say, ten? short entries, each for a different challenge, should they each get their own post or should they be bundled together?

'ello, a question/request/call for help, and also a challenge suggestion! :)

My story here (http://community.livejournal.com/sga_flashfic/474688.html) was tagged amnesty ii. I'm assuming that was by mistake. I added the tag amnesty 2006, but I don't know how to delete the amnesty ii tag. Is that restricted to admin access, or am I just horribly untalented that way?

And a challenge suggestion: What about a Missing Persons challenge? This could be the conventional MIA interpretation, or perhaps a more sci-fi missing in time/space thing, or an introspective missing-someone-in-my-life sort of way. I would also be curious about the persons 'missing' from the scripts; e.g. what happened to Sora after "The Eye"? and Torrell after "Condemned"? What about that Wraith/Human community; did they actually die?

1) Thanks!

2) o_O Music's not my thing; I would never have thought of that in a million years. Lol! (Hm, would you write a story if it was John going missing in time to the 80s?)

Thanks! It is, isn't it? I esp. love how Hermiod looks so gallant in it, with Nude Virgin! in bright green above his head. dracostella made it for me (for my fic, Virgins Out Of This World). She found the screenshots and made the gif and everything. :)

There's a book, Motel of the Mysteries by David McCauley, which is a parody of an archeology text, wherein a modern motel room is found in the distant future, and the contents are cataloged -- wrongly -- by historians from that time.

It made me ponder a challenge with such possibilities as the Earth Human crew on Atlantis similarly catalog the Ancient items they find, the non Earth people do it for stuff the Earth people bring to Atlantis, or what they see on Earth when they visit, etc. Or possibly just a general 'misinterpretation/miscommunication' challenge. Catalog entries, though, could be a neat graphic/text combo like the post secret challenge.

Once this challenge is over, can we still reply to post card prompts over at [livejournal.com profile] sga_post_secret ? There are a few I'd like to reply to but wasn't sure whether or not it would be possible to reply to a few once this amnesty 2006 challenge ended.
