Joyce-ian snippet.
Warning: typed with closed eyes.

Hue and tint and pitch and timbre, everything has values that seem to make it three dimensional, even if it has no dimension at all, like colour, like sound, both of which can't penetrate mass of any density, weightless and transient, but neutrinos can do and do do all the time, and it's neutrinos Rodney ended up with, angry at first for not being recognised as the brilliant sound engineer that he surely was, angry at losing what he thought was his calling, only to learn by mastering physics and matter that mattered, even if or especially when it was anti-matter, that the very spark that now was in and around him, all-consuming and burning bright, making him solid and real, had been missing in all his endeavours to try shape sound to his bidding.

This is beautiful - reads like a tumble of thoughts, rationalizations, hurts and epiphanies all in one unraveling thread.

God, I love this. Very stream-of-consciousness-y, and easy to hear this as Rodney's actual thoughts. Plus, you win the Speedy Gonzales award for promptness!

Wow... that was lyrical. It's as if the science of matter and anti-matter is music playing constantly in Rodney's head.

I loved it.

oh, very nice! Points to sheafrotherdon's comment, because it is exactly what I was feeling too.

Wow, I didn't even need to put my pom poms on. :D

This was really beautiful - I love the blending of musical and scientific terms in his stream of consciouness. It's amazing how much you managed to include in the flow of one sentence.

*shakes pom poms* Give me an I -- I -- Give me an N -- N... well, you get the idea. :D

it could have been a whole fic revolving around the imagery, which is an extreme form of my usual condensed style

A whole fic like that would have been too much. It has more impact this way - short, sharp and gorgeous.

Nah, but I do a mean high kick.

And if you ever decide to use the imagery you've started here for something longer I might ever show you. ;D

Yeah, to be honest you probably don't want to see it. I mean, I can do a pretty mean high kick, but on me it looks faintly extremely ridiculous.

And hey, one sentence is better than no sentence!

Oh don't worry, I knew what you meant, I just wanted to make it clear that the sight of my high kick was really more a sight to laugh at than anything else.

But then I love to make people laugh so that's quite possibly a very good thing.

And surely if less is harder than more, then I was right - one sentence is better than none. :D

whoa whoa whoa. That's beautiful! I don't even know what I like most, the imagery, the stream of counsciousness, Rodney's feelings or his epiphanies. You packed so much into one sentence! Lovely and intense

Will you eventually upload it to your site? Mems are the only "reliable" things I use to keep track of fics.

I was too tired to comment yesterday, but just wanted to say I really like this snippet. (I also have a soft spot for Joyce.) It doesn’t need any more (words) and I like the stream-of-consciousness feel of it. It just feels very Rodney-y, how he found that often illusive something that fits him naturally, unlike music.

I'm behind again, as usual. But this is gorgeous—I can hear the words, feel them...I want to read it over and over again. It is the lost music (not lost).

I like this. It reminds me of translating Latin poetry. Or of the crescendo at the end of many handbell pieces.

(On rereading, one clause makes me snicker because it reminds me of the time I went to see Rocky Horror. Then the flow of the story carries me on.)
