Warning: typed with closed eyes.
Hue and tint and pitch and timbre, everything has values that seem to make it three dimensional, even if it has no dimension at all, like colour, like sound, both of which can't penetrate mass of any density, weightless and transient, but neutrinos can do and do do all the time, and it's neutrinos Rodney ended up with, angry at first for not being recognised as the brilliant sound engineer that he surely was, angry at losing what he thought was his calling, only to learn by mastering physics and matter that mattered, even if or especially when it was anti-matter, that the very spark that now was in and around him, all-consuming and burning bright, making him solid and real, had been missing in all his endeavours to try shape sound to his bidding.

Date: 2007-01-02 01:06 pm (UTC)I could have had it up two hours earlier, but after the challenge was announced, I actually went to bed, and most of the second hour was spent booting up the PC again, trying to make out the words on the screen and deciding whether to post.

Date: 2007-01-02 09:46 am (UTC)This was really beautiful - I love the blending of musical and scientific terms in his stream of consciouness. It's amazing how much you managed to include in the flow of one sentence.

Date: 2007-01-02 01:14 pm (UTC)it could have been a whole fic revolving around the imagery, which is an extreme form of my usual condensed style
A whole fic like that would have been too much. It has more impact this way - short, sharp and gorgeous.

Date: 2007-01-02 01:22 pm (UTC)Nono, not in that style, just using the imagery of what's revolving and making him a person and that it was the right choice and how he's the type for this sort of material not the other sort etc. you know? Add people circling his nucleus, expand on the difference and feel of what's tangible and what's not yet just as important and see, my comments are longer than the ficletletlet, because they are untangling, unravelling, burrowing into the atom ... losing the thread :)

Date: 2007-01-02 01:47 pm (UTC)And if you ever decide to use the imagery you've started here for something longer I might ever show you. ;D

Date: 2007-01-02 04:22 pm (UTC)Esp. since I keep rewriting this so I'm pretty sure anything longer than one. Lonely. Sentence. Still won't squeeze past my intarnets gates.

Date: 2007-01-02 04:55 pm (UTC)faintlyextremely ridiculous. And hey, one sentence is better than no sentence!

Date: 2007-01-02 05:03 pm (UTC)You'd think so ... actually less is harder than more.

Date: 2007-01-02 05:11 pm (UTC)But then I love to make people laugh so that's quite possibly a very good thing.
And surely if less is harder than more, then I was right - one sentence is better than none. :D
Okay, you get the last word ...

Date: 2007-01-02 03:18 pm (UTC)Memories are not a good idea for my stuff. I have rewritten this ficlet at least four times in the last hour.
