There were so many things that could go wrong, that she spent every waking hour not thinking about them.
Some days were easier than others; when she was wrapped up in things that were going wrong and there wasn’t time to spare for things that hadn’t. But other days-- long lazy days where nothing much happened at all...
Those days her thumb traced circles on the worry stone, tucked away in a pocket where no one could see, silent prayers to fend off future horrors.
She wore it away in slivers of faith, and smiled, and chatted, and didn't think.
