I'm hoping that as with other feeds, LJ might just cut DW stories into a para and a "read more",

This is evidently a setting in the feed. I don't know how to make it do the wanted/expected thing, but it's a setting, is why for instance the feed for fandom wank (which I subscribe to basically entirely so I will know if I am about to wade into a wankstorm) is just a very brief title and link, but language log it's the whole damn post.
