ADMIN: In Memoriam Challenge

The H/C Challenge is over (you can read the 15 challenge responses here or using the h/c challenge tag).

An anonymous commenter has suggested that we follow up with an In Memoriam challenge:

"The other day I was thinking about how terribly sad it was that no one ever mentions Peter Grodin anymore. This got me thinking about Abrams and Gaul, Aiden, Kate, and Elizabeth. So, how about an In Memoriam challenge? Visiting with families, or AUs where lost characters never left, or fics where there's a little quiet remembrance of past characters?"

Feel free to interpret the challenge broadly: there's a lot of mental mileage in memory, remembering, In Memoriam ("It is better to have love and lost...") etc.

Today's September 1; the challenge will stay open until at least Sept 18, 2009.

Hmm... This might actually be a chance for me to flesh out an idea I've had floating around. Shiny.

And I think I've got a Challenge for you-

Secondary Characters. All those people who either we see for only one episode, or maybe just the people that float through the series in the background. What about them? They deserve a chance to shine and not just be relegated to "extra" status. Pick a canon character (or however many you want)- Biro, for example- and delve into the inner workings of their minds. The main characters (Rodney, John, etc) can be present, but they're not the focus of the 'fic.

You know, I'm surprised know one's suggested an "Aliens made them..." challenge (unless they have. In which case, apologies for suggesting it again). Aliens make the team dress up as clowns and scare Sheppard just for laughs (or as lemons to scare McKay). Aliens make Ronon write romantic poetry. Aliens make Rodney babysit. Aliens make Teyla babysit Rodney. The possibilities are endless :D

I've been trawling through the old post secrets, and thought that maybe, after the "aliens made them do it (non sexual)" challenge, we could do a post secret redux challenge? I've got a few ideas that I'd love to see the reactions to, but if not, that's perfectly fine. ^^

As I see you've seen, that community is still open--we had to open a second community based on popular demand. I think at some point soon we might do an amnesty challenge instead (possibly in October) and that might be a good time to post secrets!

At some point, it might be interesting to see a continuing education challenge. Not just Rodney forcing John at gunpoint to get a PhD, but maybe Radek having to learn how to negotiate or Ronon being required to learn the Pegasus version of ballroom dancing or Teyla studying to become Atlantis' sysadmin because Rodney doesn't want to deal with it anymore (after all, we saw in Daedalus Variations that she'd been trained on various Daedalus systems for no apparent reason other than the writers thought it would be cool, and thus it became canon as part of her ongoing integration into Atlantean and Earth operations).
