Title: Unaccepted (~5,300 words)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] xparrot
Characters: Teyla/Kanaan, potentially John/Rodney
Rating: PG
Spoilers: Tag to "The Shrine"
Notes: (sneaking in way, way past the deadline) I've really wanted gen team tags to this ep. Um, I almost managed one? It's about as gen as "The Shrine" itself is, really. Eheh...
Summary: Sometime it's frightening, how easily these people from Earth face down nightmares and conquer them.
[Podfic read by [livejournal.com profile] jadesfire2808]

Teyla doesn't know when quiet contemplation slipped into drowsing; she only knows her eyes closed because she has to open them when she feels the hand on her shoulder. )

Title: Horror Movie Blues (~1,500 words)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] xparrot
Pairing: John/Rodney
Rating: PG-13
Spoilers: tag to 5x07: "Whispers"
Summary: Post-mission, John's a bit freaked out, but Rodney's there for him.

'It wasn't fun,' John declared, with the solemn candor particular to three and a half beers... )

Title: Five Things John Can't Help But Notice
Author: [livejournal.com profile] xparrot
Words: 600 (5 drabbles + one for the road)
Pairing: John/Rodney
Rating: PG
Notes: So I've been watching various sources of Hewlett-y goodness, and it's occurred to me that I might have a wee little crush on David Hewlett. But that's okay, because John Sheppard has a huge massive one on Rodney McKay.

The thing is, noses aren't anything special... )

Title: Speech Deprived (~5,300 words)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] xparrot
Pairing: John/Rodney
Rating: PG (13 for a few words)
Notes: Last minute and ridiculously indulgent. Yes, I've batted three for three for CPR in my last three fics. Oops? Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] gnine for the title and the latest bad-thing-to-do-to-Rodney, and [livejournal.com profile] naye for the usual marvelous cheerleading (I am so spoiled!)
Summary: Rodney was released from the infirmary with painkillers, icepacks, and a strict injunction to limit all unnecessary speech for at least three days.

Title: The Only Thing (~7,500 words)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] xparrot
Characters: Team, gen
Rating: PG
Notes: Minor spoilers up through "Doppelganger". Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] gnine for the beta.
Summary: The only thing we have to fear, and what comes after.

And then Sheppard screamed, and kept screaming. )

Title: Kuro To Ao (~8,400 words)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] xparrot
Pairing: John/Rodney(-ish; it shuffles all over the slash-gen line)
Rating: PG
Notes: When I said I wanted to rework a Japanese fairy tale, [livejournal.com profile] gnine immediately suggested this one. It's stretching the challenge a bit - the inspiration isn't a traditional folktale but a children's story from the 1930s, "Naita Aka Oni" (The Red Ogre Who Cried). The original story is a short, sweet, heartbreaking tale of friendship. This is longer, and rather sillier. (Oni are Japanese ogres, and that's all the knowledge of Japanese folklore you should need.)
Summary: (AU) A tale of two unlikely friends. (And even more unlikely oni.)

Once upon a time there was a black oni, who after wandering far and wide picked a nice lonely mountaintop to settle upon... )

Title: A Rational Universe (~7,000 words)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] xparrot
Pairing: John/Rodney
Rating: PG-13
Notes: Feeling a bit blocked on other stories, I started writing this with but a vague notion of where it was headed. Of course by the end of the first scene it was going somewhere different. It's my first completed non-drabble McShep; I don't know if I should cheer or apologize.
Summary: "You're a lot more encouraging than my last friendly hallucination," Rodney says.

When he wakes up, John is there. )

Title: Fake Birds and Real Holidays (~8,300 words)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] xparrot
Rating: PG
Warnings: Set post-season 4, so contains unfounded speculation about the future (I don't have s5 spoilers and don't want 'em). Fluff that veers into angst at unexpected moments (well, I wasn't expecting them, anyway.) Also, major insulin warning: Do not read if you're physically or philosophically allergic to sweet.
Notes: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] naye for the fabulous quickie beta! Also, the Jeannie and Teyla friendship here was strongly influenced by [livejournal.com profile] friendshipper's wonderful "Postcards to Jeannie" - to be honest I didn't realize at first that I was drawing on it, that story is so part of my mental canon.

Summary: The team descends on the Miller household. No turkeys were harmed in the making of this story. Much to Rodney and Ronon's disappointment.

'So this day,' Teyla asked, 'is called Thanksgiving?' 'Yeah,' John said, 'but not *real* Thanksgiving.' )

Title: Games of Chance (~12,000 words)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] xparrot
Characters: Rodney, Sheppard, Team, etc.
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Season 4 cast/spoilers (post-BAMSR, pre-The Kindred)
Notes: Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] gnine for ironing out key plot wrinkles, and [livejournal.com profile] naye for beta/cheerleading far above and beyond the call of duty.
I am not an astrophysicist, nor do I play one on TV. I do, however, delight in tormenting them, in more ways than one, so I humbly implore any physicists in the audience to give my technobabble the same pass that you would the show.

Summary: Sheppard's got one chance, and Rodney is going to find it, no matter what.

Even though he knows that if he's opening the box, the cat's probably dead. )

Title: Still Haven't Found
Author: [livejournal.com profile] xparrot
Pairing: John/Nancy
Rating: PG-13/R (not-very-explicit het sex)
Wordcount: ~7,500 (wow I so very fail at flashfic.)
Warnings: Spoilers for "Outcast" (but not anything else.)
Notes: Not my usual sort of thing, but I'm sick and had no will for the stories I want to be writing. It probably went nothing like this. But what the heck.
Summary: "Already done that. Not very good at it." Three years of friendship and marriage and love and heartbreak.

And it's like she's seeing him for the first time, tall, dark, and attractively uncomfortable in his suit, the look in his eyes saying anywhere-but-here. )

Title: On the Rocks (And I Mean Ice!)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] xparrot
Characters: Team gen
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 3,342
Warnings: General season 4 spoilers; not for those allergic to snuggling or completely cliché fluff.
Notes: Originally a drabble idea [livejournal.com profile] gnine and I shared, that expanded rather a lot. Title from Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, blame [livejournal.com profile] naye who told me it was funny to someone not-me.
Summary: The boys, stuck overnight on Random Ice World # 69-But-Who's-Counting (Except McKay), just trying to stay warm.

'Obviously this is some strange, new definition of 'lucky',' Rodney muttered from his corner of the crevasse. )

ETA: Don't miss [livejournal.com profile] gnine's insanely adorable accompanying illustration!

Warning 1: At one time I read and reread these books (the first trilogy, anyway) on a bi-monthly basis, but that was in junior high - it's been a long time since I've even glanced at them. They were my introduction to the scifi genre proper, and will always be part of my mental fanscape, but the landmarks are fuzzy these days and I don't have my paperbacks with me. Wikipedia supplied some forgotten details, but there likely are other errors. Feel free to correct me.
Warning 2: I suspect this or something like it may have been done in SGA fandom before (hasn't everything by now? I'm late to the game here!), but I've not seen it myself. Apologies in advance for the possible inadvertent rerun.

Summary: Oh, sure, riders said that dragons never hurt humans, but had anyone who believed that ever taken a good look at those teeth?

The heat off the Hatching Grounds was so oppressive that Rodney could feel it sitting on the hewn stairs several levels up. )

but wait! there's more!
