Love love LOVE your icon. It took me a second to get it, but I laughed so hard when I did. It's provided ceaseless amusement since. (*very easily amused, obviously*)
How about a Gizmo Challenge? It could be Ancient technology, alien, or from Earth, something a character can't live without, something they can't live with, or whatever the author's bizarre little mind comes up with. An "Ancient Technology" challenge would also work.
Can I suggest a Home Challenge? I don't know if anyone else ever proposed it, but here are my thoughts on it - ‘Home’ can mean a variety of different things – a house, city, picture, mp3 player (I know someone who confessed this), simply unpacking, a baby blanket, an award… or even a person (yes I do have images of McShep running through my head). These guys are in another galaxy (or on a different planet as in the Athosians and Ronon). What makes Atlantis feel like home? Is it an object, a person, was it a moment, or was it gradual? Does it even feel like home at all?
Bad sex? Sounds good! *g* I have another challenge idea for another time, though: with all the great team!love moments in recent episodes, why don't we have a "team" challenge? This include missions, meetings, and of course, orgies (*wink, wink, nudge, nudge*) involving the members of Sheppard's team or other people on possible teams in Atlantis. We could also play with the concept of the word "team": teamplayers, sports teams, teaming up, Atlantis animal-sled teams, teambuilding, etc.
I did have an idea the other night for an "unconscious" challenge. Someone fainting, excuse me, passing out from manly whatever (terror, hunger, illness), getting knocked out or slipped a mickey on a mission, waking up in the infirmary - or not waking and other people reacting to that. Or less literally, what feelings do people have that they aren't totally aware of? How might someone's unconscious gestures give away something they didn't mean to? And how much are the ATA gene carriers aware of how they are interacting with the city, and how much are they influenced by it without realising?
Been lurking here for a bit, and not an LJ user. Forgive me if somebody's suggested the following challenges already:
Family: Biological, adopted, dead, alive, on Earth, in Atlantis... how does one define "family," anyway?
Declassified: Reporter -"This is Diane Sawyer, live with Colonel John Sheppard aboard the Daedalus, on our way to Atlantis. So, Colonel, how do you really feel about the declassification?" John - "Um..."
Homophobia: Rodney has something he really wants to say, but he's afraid John's going to beat him up. Ronon wants to know why the Marines call him that name that means "dry stick of wood."
And of course... Crossovers: "Dr. Beckett, this is Dr. House. I'm sure you two have much to discuss..."
If it hasn't been rejected already, I'd be interested in a Hunger or Starvation Challenge... There are all sorts of hunger and many ways to relieve it :-)
Oh I love this! (And FWIW, I don't really reject challenges; it's more like I try to put different kinds of things after each other, so that we don't get two really porny ones in a row, or two really slashy ones, or two very plot specific ones, etc.)
Thanks for clarifying, and I'm glad you like the idea. I'm a grateful lurker so I didn't know what might have been suggested in the past. If this is a new suggestion, that's very unusual for me creatively :)
Considering the general level of fandom squee over John and Rodney's phone call from 'Return, pt. 1', I'd love a "phone calls" challenge - calls before they left the first time, calls made while people are home on leave, calls after they'd been evicted from Atlantis, 'gate "calls" home - there's a lot of space here and it's certainly a nice fit for the last episode and going into the hiatus. And that I love Earthside fic for this fandom is just a coincidence. Really.
