“Radek, how’s the interface going?”

“I think…I think it might be ready.” Zelenka tapped a few keys on the laptop and the screen suddenly brightened. “Ah! Yes, we have tapped into Atlantis’ security cameras and we can see all areas, as well as twenty-four hour recording capability.” A clear picture of the gate room showed on the screen, with a side column showing data.

Rodney nodded. “Public areas only, though, right?”

“Of course!” Radek grinned. “The corridors are public area.”

“Well, let’s test it fully before we let Elizabeth know. Between this and the life signs detectors, we should be able to discover any unwanted houseguests.”

The two of them glanced at the mess hall, workout rooms, the conference rooms, and the hologram room. “Check out the jumper bay, and we can call Elizabeth.” Rodney tapped away and there were the puddle jumpers.

“I think there are several cameras in the jumper bay. It would make sense, considering how large it is.” The scene flickered, and showed jumpers from various angles. “I’m surprised we don’t see anyone performing maintenance…” Radek pushed his glasses up.

“According to the data, there’s one person in there—we should be able to—ah! There we go!” The picture switched to the back of an open jumper, where Sheppard seemed to be checking some of the equipment. Rodney frowned. “What the hell?”

Sheppard doing his job, but at the same time was jumping and moving in strange ways.

“Can we get audio on this thing?” Rodney’s fingers were already flying over the keyboard, and in a minute sound came from the speakers.

Radek frowned. “I don’t remember installing radios in the puddlejumpers?”

Rodney smacked himself on the head. “We figured out how to hook an iPod into the speaker system. Sheppard found the Ancient equivalent of a Bose sound system in the jumpers, and a little wiring, a little soldering…” Both men looked up as Elizabeth walked into the lab.

“So, any progress on the cameras?” Elizabeth walked around to look at the laptop. “What are you…Oh. My. God.”

The music changed, and now Sheppard was shaking his hips and shimmying in a way that would put a Vegas pole dancer to shame. Rodney turned up the volume a little bit. Radek’s hand snuck over to the record button.

Sheppard was singing as well.

Love is like a bomb, baby, c'mon get it on
Livin' like a lover with a radar phone
Lookin' like a tramp, like a video vamp
Demolition woman, can I be your man?

Elizabeth covered her mouth, not quite stifling the giggle. Radek didn’t bother to hide his grin and Rodney exclaimed, “The little headbanger!”

Pour some sugar on me
Ooh, in the name of love
Pour some sugar on me
C'mon fire me up

Elizabeth squinted. “Should he be able to move his hips like that?”

Rodney shrugged. “It was the eighties.”

I'm hot, sticky sweet
From my head to my feet yeah

Sheppard threw his head back and sang along with Joe Elliot. He shuffled, thrust his hips, played air guitar during the solo, and at one point even slid along the floor of the jumper bay on his knees.

Pour some sugar on me
Yeah! Sugar me!

The song faded out, and the next one began. All three laughed out loud as John’s antics continued to the music of David Coverdale.

“Say, Elizabeth?” Rodney asked between snickers, “Do you think we could get Teyla to writhe like Tawny Kitaen on the hood of the puddlejumper?”

Rodney shrugged. “It was the eighties.”

Oh lord, how embarrassingly true! Thanks, I needed a laugh!

Oh, I could so picture this exactly in my head - the air guitar was a perfect touch. Somehow it's such a very John-in-a-playful-mood thing.
And I confess to singing along with him.
Very amusing. Thanks!

Oh yeah - John would SO do air guitar, with the scrunched up face and the moces you couldn't possibly do if you were actually playing a guitar!

I have one major complaint about your story however (after squeeing over it being you, and the inticing summary. IT'S TOO SHORT! Write more dammit! (please....)

Bwah! Loved this. John so totally has a seekrit love for da Lep.

“Say, Elizabeth?” Rodney asked between snickers, “Do you think we could get Teyla to writhe like Tawny Kitaen on the hood of the puddlejumper?”

God, it's been nearly 20 years, and I still can't look at a car hood without flashbacks.
